The hanging style Hercules stand damaged the finish on one of my basses, so I am leery of them. Obviously YMMV, it hasn't hurt any of my other basses.

really easy to move to a mate's house for a jam as well. it folds up pretty small
I've found some floor-hugging stands like the mini-hercules leave the instrument too close to the floor. This would be good, except that the lead's plug can have weight put on it (assuming a side-mount output socket, and assuming your bass is plugged in when you place it on the stand).
I like the plain old trusty 3-piece guitar stand style. And I like to make sure the bass is leaning back a bit - some people place the instrument so its neck is vertical and it amazes me that more guitars and basses don't get knocked over when set like this!

Hercules all the way. They are well worth the money when you consider the investment that they will be protecting!
I have two Ultimate stands that don't have the little feet on the bottom so they work well for non-symmetrical basses like a Jazz (IOW it hangs them by the headstock). They're nice, but after my wife got me a Hercules as a birthday present I replaced all my other stands with Hercules. They're fantastic.
I also use the Hercules,great stands. Watch out for the 2 nuts below the foam padding on the legs. I coated mine with aquasure which is used for sealing waders. When it dries it has a texture similar to hard rubber. 3 coates is plenty. You can pick it up in any angling store.
Love the Herc as well, but took the advice of a fellow TBer and bought the triple stand even though I only bring two basses to a gig; it does seem more sturdy on the foot configuration with one bass on while I am playing another.
Anything that doesn't have a "fork". I've lost way too many of those "forkers" in my career.
