OK. If the average family has 2.4 kids, how many basses does the average TB'er keep in his/her stable? And just as important--why? Two similar basses with one as backup? Two totally different basses to cover a broader tonal range? A beater and a work of art, etc.

I'll kick things off. I have five basses- three Sterlings for their great rock n' roll tone. A Fender P-bass with a Bart NTBT for country phatness. And a Bongo 5 H/SC that sounded so good, I had to have it!

Let the truth be known!

i would have to say 3 2/3
-one fretless mim jazz 4
-my hanie fretted 4
-mia p-bass fretted 4
-my 2/3 scale starter bass that i haven't touched in years

i would have to say that they have a broad range of tones (my hanie probably being the most versatile number of tones wise, while my p-bass's tone will fit almost any style of music, and i have a fretless which is a completely different axe altogether.)

So i probably have 3 basses that couldn't be more different.

I love both basses equally (the 5 more at the moment) but am lusting after a Jazz or Super J or Precision or Conklin Sidewinder 7 or Salas 4

The amount of basses one has is inversely proportional to the amount of kids one has. rickreyn's law.;)

I have three in the house right now, but two are on the way out. I can only play one at a time, so my philosophy is to have the best I can afford, but only one.

I go through waves of bass experimentation and this one's about to splash on the beach.

A bass playing friend in my area says a bass player's stress is relieved by having an alternate bass to go to. I then am about to experience stress again.

5 to fully smear the tonal pallette

1) daion because it plays like an alembic but sounds like a pre cbs p
2) fretless jazz...um because there was this guy who played one pretty good.... what was his name again?;)
3) stingray5... do i need to explain why?
4) carvin 6 string fretless modern sounding solo machine as well as an all around good groove bass.
5) conrad beatle bass 'cause there was this one hit wonder band back in the 60's and i liked the cute one's bass sound!;)
