Double Bass New amp...Phil Jones Bass Cub

I want one because it's 6kg or 13.2lbs
I use both a PJB Flightcase and EA Micro/GK 112mb
The new PJB BassCub is even lighter

I phoned the shop and they said this one is for bass
They say it has the same EQ as my Flightcase but they added another channel for mics
The shop is not sure if the EQ is the same on that mic channel
They will phone me next week with more info because the distributor is on holidays

The Phil Jones for guitar are not ported , the PJB Bass Cub is ported on the bottom

I tried one of the guitar Cubs with a bass but it doesnt have any bottom at all. I guess they have a lowcut crossover or something because it didnt have anything under 150hz

Thanks

Robert VanLane

I've used my Flightcase with upright bass , electric bass , acoustic bass , banjo , mandolin , bouzouki and mandocello
All sound very natural
For bass I find the bottom a little weak , but I notch it up a little
I do wish Phil Jones stuff was louder

Thanks

Robert VanLane

I thought that PJB was geared more toward electric players. I guess I just blindly assumed that the small speakers probably weren't that great to get that acoustic thump from a DB. I'm constantly on the lookout for a dual purpose rig so I can play both on gigs and sound legit for either.

I found the Flightcase to be wanting in some louder settings, but have never played in a situation that the Super Flightcase couldn't handle. It has so much "acoustic thump" that I have to tone it down a bit with a high pass filter. YMMV.

Yep! I tried the Flightcase and was lucky enough to return it because the Flightcase 300 was just coming out. I've owned the 300 for about a year and 5 months and have never turned the Master Gain up over 12 O'clock. This amp cranks. I also use a Fishman Pro Platinum for a bit more IQ (small joke, not a typo) control. The amp is the most natural sounding bass amp for double bass that I've encountered.

Oh Yeah, It also sounds killer for electric if you like a tight R&B Jamie Jamerson type of sound. Love those 5 inch speakers!:hyper::hyper:

Damn you ALL lol. I was perfectly set on upgrading from my Kay to a new carved or hybrid bass this year, now I want to throw down some cash on this guy. I've been looking forever for an amp that would sound legit on both upright and electric and that was lighter than my 70lbs ampeg right now. Yay for decisions that make great music.

Man, I like the two channel aspect of this. I wonder if Phil will be putting out a Super Flightcase version of that head?

Chris,
I saw this on the Phil Jones Website this morning. Looks like your request has been answered, sort of. Man that was quick, it's the Super Cub 300, but once again it's a guitar amp with
reverb. More power and six speakers though. Kinda looks like a Super Flight Case in Sheep's clothing.
