Double Bass New amp...Phil Jones Bass Cub

I have just try the Flightcase (two speakers in front, two facing up). I really liked the sound - very natural, warm and clean, unfortunately the volume was too low. I had the master set at 3 o'clock to get a decent volume and I doubt this volume would be enough with drums...
The sound reminded me of the Markbass Minimark (two 6'' speakers) which goes much louder.

First of all, it's really fun to carry the Bass Cub in it's gigbag. Almost no weight at all. I think you can't built a bass amp much smaller and lighter than this.

As already mentioned, the gig was a outdoor gig, on the streets of a Invalid Link Removed hometown which had 750th anniversary (the village, not the friend, of course :smug:). The overall volume of the Bass Cub was absolutely sufficient for this band (bass + three :( guitars/voice/bluesharp).
But due to the lack of room acoustics (no room at all … just a tent to protect us against the rain), the bass reproduction was rather weak.

Today, I tried the Bass Cub in my rehearsal room again. The bass frequencies sounded much better. I've put the Bass cub on the floor, and moved it around in the room. I was able to get a pretty good sound with the amp facing a corner, with maybe 1 m distance to the wall.

Conclusion, so far: for small groups and small rooms, the Bass Cub offer a amazingly good "size-to-sound"-ratio. I wouldn't choose it as my main amp, but it's great for special purposes like rehearsals, small club gigs, or maybe as preamp+stage monitor on larger stages (with the DI to FOH), or for practising along with drum machine/iPod.

I see that it is 2 channel with 2 inputs
But in the manual it says that it is only 1 channel when used with mic
Anyone tried it with a mic?

I have the Phil Jones Flightcase and like it very much
BUT it doesnt have a bag and being cubishly shaped(although very lightweight)is not so easy to carry on buses and trains or walk long distances with

Hi,

Nice little amp, but I would like it to have an output for passive extension cabinets and a switch to turn off the internal speakers if needed for reasons of not going below the minimum impedance load!

I got the Bass Cub today and tried it in the shop w. one of my main basses which is a Shen SB-150 hybrid strung w. Spirocore mittels and a Full Circle pu.
First impressions were that there is not enough power to do most of my gigs with. That being said I then tried a Fender Jazz slab which I use mostly for teaching. The main reason I got this thing was for my small cubby hole room I teach in at a prep school. W. the bass guitar this is perfect...
I did try my upright again through a Fishman Pro Platinum and it was a better sound than straight in. But Hey- THIS IS A PRACTICE AMP !! I think this might work for drum-less coffee house gigs, but not much more. The 2 small speakers really can't handle my E string on the upright.
I will use this weekend on a gig or 2, but I am spoiled by my Doubler/Wizzy 10 combination. Still a pretty cool little amp....Very Well Made.

I am using the bass cub this weekend for a musical I am playing in the pit for, I did not think this amp would make it but up on the band stand it is pumping away I am so happy I dont have to bring my big rig just in and out before I have to help the drummer...

I have the Flightcase
It has the same speakers as the Bass Cub
If I boost the bass it is easy to overpower the speakers

I was very surprised how well the speakers project
A student was using my amp and I could hear the bass very clearly
Afterwards I looked at the settings and was surprised at how low the volume was set at. Usually I set mine higher
