Viva La Jazz Bass!

In the 6 years that I've played bass, i've had a lot of basses. Most of those basses were either bought and sold on TB as well. I've owned close to every production style bass I could get my hands on, including Fender (USA, MIM, MIJ, MIK), Ernie Ball Music Man, Peavey, Yamaha, Schecter, G&L, Carvin, Warwick, etc... It always seems as if the grass is always greener on the other side and I sell one thing to buy another.

Lately, i've been thinking about what i've had and what has worked for me. What was I truly happy with? I don't mind super modern basses, but they aren't my first choice. I love the build quality of the Music Man basses that I've had, but the sound/tone of those basses just didn't work in all of the mixes that I was playing in. I decided that my favorite style bass that I had played and that worked well for me was alway a Jazz bass. I love the natural tone of a good Jazz bass. I also prefer the sound of alder/rosewood as well. Ash and maple definately have a nice flavor to them, but my preference is for the mid punch of alder/rosewood. I began looking into getting a new USA Fender Jazz from my local guy but he told me he could not get a new USA made bass for a while. I wanted to go with my local guy, because he was going to cut me a great deal on a new USA Fender. I began looking online for them, but didn't want to pay what they were asking. I just didn't have the cash for a Sadowsky, Allevia Coppella, or US Lakland, so I wasn't sure what to get. I was considering a Lakland Skyline, but then I saw and found a G&L Jb Jazz bass. I instanly fell in love with the looks of the bass and decided to take a plunge on it. I have had this bass in for a while now, and I am in love with it. It is exactly what I wanted. Superb build quality that every G&L i've had has had and the sound is just what a Jazz bass should be: thick, rich, and punchy!

If you're interested in a new Jazz bass, give the G&L consideration. I have always loved the build quality of G&L but have never really bonded with the two i've had (Jb-2 and Sb-2). I am definately bonding with this one though.

Beautiful bass, when I was looking around for a JB I thought about these, but I'd never played one. A guy told me he had a G&L jazz bass for trade, and I was pretty excited, but sadly it ended up being a JB-2 (I'm not a huge fan of the standard G&L body style) instead of a JB.

Just out of curiousity, was it the same price range as a Skyline?

Yea, I had a JB-2 and it was ok. I didn't care about the body shape at all. I also didn't care for the sound. The build quality was amazing though.

I believe these are a bit more new than Skylines. It is worth the extra dough though. IMHO!

Cheese. You've hit the nail on the head. I love the 60s style J basses and this one is exactly what I've wanted.

Congrats on a great bass! I have GAS for a JB also, and for reasons similar to why you grabbed yours. I've played a variety of basses, and J-basses just work the best on average. And what could possibly be better than a classic Jazz with the quality, finish, and playability of G&L? The Plek fret levelling, alone, is worth the money over a Fender IMO. I'll take mine in Midnight Blue Metallic, tort, rosewood, painted headstock. Just need to sell something first...

In your pics, it looks almost like a straight metallic orange, and less "copper" than I've seen in other pics. I really like it in your pics, as I'd prefer more of a regular orange.

yea, in real life it's a bit more copper than orange. i still love it though. its such a unique color. i wanted something different than sunburst, white, or red. i like black basses, but i always am wearing a black T shirt, so it's nice to have something that stands out a little on stage!
