Looks like, as usual, a really well engineered design from berg.
Do you know anything about the crossover point and the horn, KJ? And those drivers look suspiciously like OEM Kappalites of some kind.
Having fun doing my A/Bing with the AE410. Nice cab. I'm sure the drivers are some sort of Eminence Neo's, but have no clue. Also, don't really know about the crossover point, but it seems a touch on the lower side versus the Epi, etc. If I had to guess, maybe 3K.... PURE guess there.
So far, A/Bing these brings to mind the description that Tom Bowlus used way back when in describing the IP310 versus the IP212.... they both sound like IP's, but one with a 'flavor' of 10" driver and one with a flavor of 12" driver (again, comparing driver sizes in similar boxes from the same manufacturer).
So far, SPL seems identical (edit: to clarify... not max SPL necessarily, but 'volume per watt')...absolute low end response seems identical (edit: maybe a smidge more deep low end with the AE212 now that the surrounds have loosened a touch after an hour or so of playing), top end extension seems identical (same tweeter and I assume same crossover...no surprise there).
The AE410 has more meat in the mids, and actually sounds a touch more forceful in the low end due to the lower mid content. With the F500, I was able to get the two cabs sounding VERY similar by cutting around 250hz a few DB and 1K a few DB on the AE410. So, set flat, the AE410 has a bit more low mid punch, and a bit more bright upper mid grind. The AE212 has a smoother response through the mids to the bass (more open), and a bit more space between the top of the driver and the tweeter, bringing out a bit more sparkle than grind.
VERY subtle though, and while I will do a clip, I'm not sure these differences will come through on my little recorder.
Early net/net... if you dig the AE410 but find it just a bit too aggressive up top and burpy down low, you will LOVE this cab. If you really don't dig the AE410, you won't like the AE212 either... more similar than different.
Finally, the AE212 (as posted by someone who checked out the prototype) seems lighter than the 55 pounds (versus the 62 of the AE410). The form factor, the high handles, the slightly skinnier thinner profile makes this thing a dream to lift... nice!
I'll hit the low end a bit more to loosen up the surrounds and then post a clip for the heck of it in a bit.
Wonderful product, and at around $400 less (I think I have that right) than the 2 x AE112, it is a nice way to get into dual 12 Bergland!
