Bergantino AE212 - Just Released

Thanks for the review and video, Ken!

As much as I love my AE410 and think this would be a fantastic addition, I think my money is better spent on a Mesa M9 than getting an AE212. I think the Mesa (vs. my Genz 6) will provide more of a contrast than the AE212 would provide for the AE410.

I would agree there. The Mesa M9 will make that Shuttle 6 sound like a peanut driven by a 9 volt battery (although the Shuttle sounds pretty nice with the AE cabs)! And, the Mesa's huge low end and sparkly highs will actually tame the mid presence of the AE410 nicely. Good call IMO!

My guess is the weight. Two 45 pound cabs is one thing... but a relatively small 212 that weighs 85 pounds or so.... not a big market for that IMO. At least with the HS410, it's big enough to put some heavy duty castors on it. With a relatively small 212, not so much.

Makes sense, but a lot of guys are using the two 112 cabs as their main cabs(or complete rig, if that makes sense).

I'd get the one box to cut down on load in trips and some sort of cart to roll it. ;)

But I'm sure i'm in the minority, my 410 weighs 98 lbs :eek:.

Hey Ray,

I too greatly prefer a single cab solution... just simpler, less expensive, and typically, from my experience, you get a little more ooomph out of a single large cab with the same drivers versus two separate small boxes. However, for many these days, anything over 60 pounds or so just isn't going to fly, especially in the high end market.

Your cat has a very long tale......;)

The cab sounds great and another winner with the F500.
Having recently picked up a Uber 212 cab there is some definate low mid bump going on with these 212 cabs that are really cool.
The thin/height profile makes this a cool one cab solution rig!

I'd like to hear those Uber cabs sometime. Post up a clip with your Shuttle Max if you get around to it.

And yes, my beloved 16 year old cat Twix is a bit on the ragged side (he was a stray and has that 'rat tail':D), but he's just a wonderful friend. Since I work out of the house, he pretty much hangs with me all day at home, and of course, any time something new happens (like recording a cab in 'his room'), he is all over it.

I'm going to let my buddy Jason (TBer Vision) give the RH450 a whirl with my A-C LG. If he's cool with it, I'll record him and post up. I have a feeling it will sound great with this cab, given my experience with the RH450/AE410 combination.

He's coming over Sunday, so look for it on Monday!

I just listened to the 410/212 clip with headphones, and I hear the 410 being a little more "even" and the 212 more hollow in its mids (as you said earlier). Great comparison!

BTW I don't think your cat likes the 212 though. :D

There is a funny part of an early clip on my Youtube channel where I'm scruffing through a Jaco tune, and he just walks out of the room in disgust.. doesn't even look up... just leaves.:D

Thanks, as always, for your reports and reviews. I actually was going to do this cab and a separate single cab (different builder) but went with two AE112s. I'm really impressed with them and a MB F500 just straight-up flat out of the box, but the first gig test is tonight. I wonder if the 212 is better tuned/more efficient or "omphicient" than the two 112s together, but I'm liking what I'm hearing anyway.

Ken,

Thx for going to the trouble to post up your early impressions and clip. Seems like Mr JB has worked his magic again!

Got a bunch of these heading over to Australia. Can't wait till they get here. Definitely will be hanging onto one for myself - I'm sure my AE410 won't mind :D

I think both cabs have got something different to offer to different players which is great. Look forward to reading your gig report.
