Bergantino AE212 - Just Released

Would you say that the 2x12 is scooped, or that the 410 is mid-forward? Both a little?

With a good EQ, is there benefit to the 4x10? The form factor seems so much better that if the SPL is the same then, where is the benefit?

OF Course, Gig reports to follow, but the 212 "should" have better dispersion as well. Being taller as well? Do you envision a new go-to cab?

Edit: To directly answer your question... the entire AE line is mid present. The AE212 is a bit more even and open sounding (but not scooped at all), the AE410 is VERY mid present in the low mids and upper mids... punchy and grindy. Also, SPL represents volume per watt, not maximum volume, so a bit different. My guess is, the 410 has higher maximum volume prior to reaching the limits of the speaker travel (xMin or Lim or whatever that is called when a speaker starts to compress and run out of steam).

I've again never experienced a 212 that can keep up with the punch and volume and 'lack of compression' of a 410 when really hitting the slap transients.

I guess I would reverse your comment... with good EQ, is there really any reason for the 212. We shall see. Of course, the 410 has that bit of interference in the upper mids (minor with the bass guitar), and the larger 12 drivers beam a bit more from what I understand... so you can kind of pick your poison.

IMO, there would be no reason to own both of these cabs (unless, like me, you have rigs in different locations/cities, and are a bit of a gear head:D). The form factor of the AE212 is very 'small cart' friendly, which is a nice thing with difficult load ins, stairs, etc.

So, in summary:p, you can get each to sound pretty darn similar. Unless the universe has changed, my guess is the AE410 will outperform the 212 at very high volumes with aggressive playing... but you pay for that in a larger size and heavier weight. Trade-offs, trade-offs!!

For those who play at moderate volumes and like a single cab solution with a lot of booty in 4ohms... this would be it IMO!

I guess I misread or mistook yrou original "similar SPL" to be MAX SPL...

The 4x10 should be a bit MORE, if it is in fact, bigger, heavier, more expensive and with a higher driver count.

I think you are more correct to point out that what I really meant was that the cabs were so comparable they are essentially equivalents.

Regarding beaming, it is without a doubt that the 4x10 beams more than the 2x12. Measure edge of speaker to edge of speaker width-wise. You'll see around 23" for the 4x10 and probably 15" or so for the 212. That's what determines horizontal (and vertical, which you don't care about really) dispersion.

+1 Both sound similar and great... the AE212 just at touch smoother, more open, fatter, the 410 just a bit more meaty and punchy and aggressive. For those who don't slap, my guess is the AE212 will cover virtually any gig.

I'm looking forward to pounding it on a gig though and seeing how it performs when really pushed. Stay tuned:)

Thanks for the quick review Ken..I am looking forward to trying one out. Hopefully, the Atlanta Bass Gallery will get theirs this week. I am going to bring in my Aggie DB112s to test against. We will see how it goes!

Yes, thank you Ken for your time, efforts, and feedback...
I just love that bridge tone man

The AE212 sounds like an AE for sure, from your demo.. If the AE212 is smoother, but the punch and aggression can be boosted to be closer to the 410, while the very upper edges are smoothed off ever so slightly, I could see this cab really suiting my finger style......
the AE410 is killer though.........
I really look forward to test driving the AE212 myself........and of course my dear wife will be dreading it.....bless her heart ;)

more narrow form factor, a touch lighter, within reasonable reach of volume capabilities of the AE410, and still the sweet AE tone......

But does anyone here actually think Jim B knows what he's doing?
well duh!!!:bassist::bassist:

Hey, thanks for the shoutout, Ken!

My AE-212 just showed up, too, but it's still in the box. I'll probably hear yours before I hear mine. :rollno::D

Have you fired it up yet!?!

My buddy Vision (Jason) is coming over Sunday, and I hope to talk him into putting up a clip with my A-C LG (60's style J) and the RH450 to see how 'old school' this cab gets.

FYI, the first 2 AE212 deliveries to the A BG will be hijacked and re-routed to my house....
check back in a couple of weeks......:D:D

but just look for me in the obituaries (after my wife finds out I have new Bergs again :hiding::hiding:)

seriously...have fun!!! and please do post your experience and thoughts :hyper::hyper:

Oh No!!!!

It is still considerably tighter than the HT112ERs?
I love the ER too, but I love the AE tightness......

I have not played the ER's, but my guess would be that anything in the AE line would be tighter, punchier, and brighter than the ER's. Since this cab is relatively close sounding (to my ear) to the AE410, I think that is a safe assumption.

Well, that sucks! At least for me anyway...good luck! Let us know what you think!

Yes, that is right. The AE212 sounds a lot like two AE112's, and they are definitely tighter and punchier than the HT112ER's. As for that brighter thing, the ER's actually have a very beautiful high end that is fairly present, but I think that the very big, deep lows of the ER's, combined with a bit more upper midrange from the AE's can make it sound like the AE's are brighter - though again, I'm not sure that there actually is any more volume/presence way up high out of the AE's versus the ER's. The ER's are definitely bigger, smoother, and slightly more laid back (but still very powerful), relative to the AE's.

+1 When I use the term 'bright' it is more about the upper mids/lower treble than the absolute treble extension to the top of the tweeters.

I'm really digging this cab. Solo, it sounds smoother and sweeter than the AE410. It will be interesting to see how that translates on the gig. I sure do love that 'in your face' punch of the AE410.
