Double Bass Acme Series III Low B-112 'Flat Wound' speaker

This speaker cabinet sounds great for double bass and it's only 37 lbs. My friend who writes gear reviews for one of the bass magazines lent it to me to try out in various contexts.

I was using my Juzek with Bass Max pickup into a Euphonic Audio Doubler. Very impressed with the sound. My bandmates in two different situations really commented favorably, even the guy who never says anything good about anyone's tone. It's present but not obtrusive and it handles the meat of the low end very well. One setting was in a difficult event space and the other one was outside. I didn't need to go through the P.A. in either setting.

Not the most efficient cabinet in the world, but they mention that on their website. The trade-off in natural sound is totally worth it.

I was able to single-trip it from the car to the gig with my upright and gig bag over one shoulder and this cabinet in the other hand. About a 50 yard trip with a hill and no problems.

The speaker is a Neodymium and this cabinet was a 4 ohm version. More info on their site at http://www.acmebass.com

Thumbs up from me for sure. I didn't get to try an electric through it, but my friend had nothing but good things to say about it.

Acme has a good reputation for building excellent cabinets. The B1 Series II is tiny for the amount of bass it puts out and sounds really good with upright.

That's the one drawback with Acme cabinets. They take considerably more power to drive them just like the older EA VL series did. The net result is great lows, but they are not as efficent as the newer cabinets are.

Interesting, But since the EA Doubler is stoopid light I can imagine that would work. My amps are 7 and 9 lbs respectively, so that is a little heavier. There's light and then there's ultra light.;)

Acme has some special internal bracing that makes them a little heavier, thus the nice sound. I do like the fact that it's got the port in front.

Nice to see something new for DB thanks for showing it to us.
