Something weird about my new SX P Bass

Been playing 45 years. I haven't owned a P for 20 years. I have never played a Jazz. I looked at the dimensions for the P bass neck at Rondo and it 1-3/4 @ nut and 2-5/16 at 12th fret.
The Jazz is 1-5/8 @ nut and 2-5/16 at 12th fret.

My new P felt sort of smaller then what i remember but I actually love it. It has the neck dimensions of the Jazz:confused:
Anyone know what they should be on an SX P. Is Rondo's dimensions correct?

I've questioned some of Rondo's online specs, because they seem to be all over the place, or in some cases, just plain wrong. I think this is more a case of copy-n-paste goofs rather than a deliberate attempt to mislead. For example, one of the basses is listed in the specs as having "a maple fretboard with dot inlays", whereas the inlays in the pic are clearly blocks; a "3-Ply pickguard (white/black/white)" is shown in the pics as black/white/black.

I could see the same sort of mistake being made with neck dimensions. I don't own an SX P, so I can't tell you what the actually neck dimensions are, but I'm sure someone here can.

SX neck widths are typical Fender size at the nut. The P is usually the same as a Fender P, and the J is usually the Fender J width of 1.5." That has been my experience at least.

As for the actual neck profile, they vary even among SX basses of the same type, but are usually chunkier than a typical Fender neck.

Jeeze, this comes up every week now!

Keep on and I will turn into one of those people...you know the one's who say, "use the search function". I now see how they came to be.

My Ursa 1 MN Ash 3TS:

website says: 1-3/4"

Reality and a ruler says: 1-5/8"

Now, get off my lawn!

So, I'm guessing you don't care for Fender's looks either?:hmm:

The headstock these Ursa's just replaced Rok'd.
This has been a debate for some time - I just threw in the cute comment to spark interest, but the new URSA headstocks really are ugly.

I don't know, maybe it's because it's only recently I've come to know about SX basses, I have no "emotional investment" in the older Lakland style headstock, but I don't find it ugly at all ,and don't see what the big deal is. I will admit the older one looks better, but I wouldn't describe the new one as "ugly" at all.
