Please join me in celebrating the high quality short scale basses that Jimmy Wilson of Landing Guitars is creating. While it may a bit premature of me to start this club as I presently do not yet have my Landing bass in my possession, I just could not help myself. Once my bass arrives I'll be sure to discuss the details of fit and finish and tone. At this point I can tell you that Jimmy has been very helpful and available to me as a customer. Him and I have exchanged multiple emails in one day many times. He is very attentive to emails and in my experience his communication with me has been very good.
He managed to produce pretty much perfectly what I was looking for in terms of a custom instrument. That is a short scale bass in the style of a Fender Tele Guitar. I opted for a single Darkstar pickup in the "sweet" spot. I am not super familiar with the tone of this pickup, but a fellow local TBer "Loopee" aka Louise was kind enough to let me demo her DS equipped Landing. After I tried it out I was confident that the DS would work for my tone. I was equally satisfied that Landing would deliver up to my expectations.
While there are more and more bass manufacturers producing short scale basses, its nice to have ss basses being taken seriously, there are still only a handful of luthiers that specialize in these 30" scale instruments. My understanding is that Landing is among some of the finest makers of top quality short scale basses.
