EDEN CLOSE OUT @ SAM ASH! and my new rig

I don't know if this is reported anywhere, but this is awesome news that should be shared (Read 1/2 way down into post about Eden Close Out in bold)!

I been downgrading or upgrading some of my bass gear depending on how you view it (currently Ampeg 8x10, Ampeg 1x15, and stv4pro and B.C. Rich Beast Bass), I recently purchased the Limited Edition Ibanez Ashula six string fretted/fretless hybrid bass (4 fretted, 2 fretless), and I was looking to buy a new and much smaller bass rig.. something which I could fit into a my very small 2 door sports convertible and use for small gigs and rehearsals rather than having to use a truck to haul my Large Venue/studio rig around.. So I considered Ampeg, Marshall, Mesa Boogie, and Eden..

I very stupidly ended up purchasing the $599.99 Ampeg MicroVR Stack (200 Watt Head and 2x10 250 watt cabinet) which in my opinion is perfect for home and studio use (it sounds great at normal volume).. I thought would be sufficient for this side project but during our normal practice/rehearsal, once the guitarist turned on his equipment it completely drowned it out and forced me to crank the volume above 6 and made it sounds like SH!T and created excessive string noise... So lets just say I'll be returning it tomorrow.

So, I ended up weighing my other options and came to the conclusion that I wanted Eden.. I've always wanted Eden bought found them always to be very pricey and really small for the money.. yes I know your paying for quality and great sound, but when your playing at venues like the Keyclub and House of Blues where they don't really plug you in to the sound board that well and you gotta carry your own sound and power for a Death Metal band... you can't get away with anything under an 8x10 or other type of fullstack... however currently this new rig of mine will be for a new Instrumental Metal side project of my guitarist, so it should be great as Edens are superior at Highs and everything you need for an instrumental band.



Anyways on to the Title of this topic, when I checked the Sam Ash website, I noticed that they didn't list any.. I've always known Sam Ash for being one of the few retailers which carried Eden so when I checked the Eden Website it still listed Sam Ash as an Authorized Seller... So I decided to visit a couple local Sam Ash stores here in Southern California and check them out in person.


When I got there...oh my...


It turns out Sam Ash will not be carrying Eden anymore and are liquidating their entire Eden stock at great Close Out Prices!

I ended up getting an Eden D210XST 2x10 bass cabinet for only $549! when everywhere else (Musicians Friend, Amazon, and other retailers) still has them for $699.99!

They also had a WT405 for just 649 but I am looking to get at least a WT550 which was unfortunately out of stock but they said It's in stock in Phoenix and can be shipped to California for me.. but I rejected the offer as I would like to see it first and test it out and make sure it hasn't been abused (or missing knobs) as the sales person said it is a floor model..

Later on the same day, I decided to visit a 2nd Sam Ash store and discovered they had completely sold out of their stock.. don't know if that's because some lucky person snatched them at a great price or coincidentally they been out of stock.. but whatever the case, this is probably a once in a lifetime deal for Eden since they never drop in price and even retain most (or all) of their value used (when your ready to part ways and sell them on ebay or whatever).


So basically the Eden amps are running $50-100+ cheaper at Sa Ash than elsewhere, while the cabinets are going for $100-150+ cheaper!

So if your looking to upgrade to what I consider the "Aston Martin" of the Bass world, I recommend paying a visit to your local Sam Ash and hopefully they will have Eden Bass Euipment still in stock (or can order/transfer them for you) at these once in a lifetime prices!

Guitar Center as far as I know never carried Eden (except used Eden gear from customer trade-ins).. As for Musicians Friend, it doesn't appear they are going to stop carrying them.. same with Amazon (which you probably never considered for purchasing music gear, but surprisingly is as good (sometimes better prices) than Musicians Friend and too offer free shipping and no taxes).

So if your going to get Eden, your best bet is Musicians Friend or Amazon.com. Also Believe it or not, Best Buy also carries Eden (some Best Buy Locations have a Music/Instrument Department).
But it doesn't really matter where you get it from because much like the iPhone in the Cellphone world.. Eden does not ever go on sale and no matter where you get it from, it will the same exact price.


But if you have the cash now or can borrow it for the time being.. I highly recommend hitting up Sam Ash for these crazy deals.

The more I sit at home thinking about the WT550 amp, the more I think I may be willing to head on back to Sam Ash tomorrow and have them transfer the amp from Arizona.. because 1. when it arrives and the condition doesn't meet my approval.. I am sure I can always reject it and get my money back... and 2. UNBELIEVABLE PRICE!

Anyways, I think I will go to head back over to Sam Ash tomorrow regardless of ordering the WT550 to inquiry about the other models Eden makes.. because when I was there, I didn't know the model numbers except the WT550.. so now with a model list in hand from the Eden Website, hopefully, they will have some crazy deal too good to pass up!

as I found out from the Sam Ash location I went to that had none in stock, they can transfer them in from other stores (even from different states), and order them for you.

Most likely because the average Sam Ash customer is too cheap and uneducated to know what you get with Eden over the other brands..

Consider this: for the price of a regular eden 4x10 or xst 2x10 Eden cab. You can buy an 8x10 of the other brands available... Even other good brands like Ampeg.

And for the price of a decent 800 watt Eden amp runs 1500 dollars! which isn't their top of the line!!! while on the other hand you could have any of Ampeg's top of the line 1200+ watt amps for cheaper at just 1000-1300 dollars..

Due to this, I am sure the Edens are slow movers and generate little profit for Sam Ash and take up retail space which they could fill with fast movers like GK, Ampeg, or SWR..

I know the above statements must be true because I too have passed up Eden over Ampeg and other brands over the past 10 years..

To get my metal rig (Ampeg SVT-4Pro, 8x10 & 1x15 classic cabinets) in the equivalent in Eden (WT1205, D810XT & D115XLT), you would have to spend a crazy FOUR TO FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS while going with Ampeg only will ran me a bit less than $3000.

However because of Ampeg's lacking sound, I did end up buying a complete Touring/Studio rack setup (BBE Sonic Maximizer, Aphex Aurial Ehhancer, Alesis dual 32 band Digital EQ, Furman Power, Sabine Tuner, plus the Road Ready Case and Monster Cables.). however with Eden's great tone, sound, and controls, I probably wouldn't have needed those sound enhancers and modifiers I had to purchase for my Ampeg rig...


With Eden, You pay for what you get. A tone and sound that cannot be matched or beat by any other brand and quality which is unsurpassed by Ampeg and most other brands.. Most important to mention, the speakers in Eden cabs are able to handle deeper lows than even Ampeg. Eden's xst 10inch speakers can go as DEEP AS AN UNBELIEVABLE 30Hz!!!
Which I may add, is lower that most 15 inch speakers by most brands (INCLUDING AMPEG)! my 8x10 Ampeg cab only can goes as low as 58Hz and my 1x15 can only do 50Hz..

So you can be confident that you can tune your bass down to A, then drop it an octave on top of that, and feel confident that the sound that comes out of the cabinet will be clear and deep and shake the F**k out of the place! while on the other hand, with Ampeg you couldn't even dare drop your bass anything lower than A without the cabinet sounding muddy and the notes sounding like a single jumbled mess.


The typical Eden Player I've notice have always been the seasoned bass player who's free to select their own gear and isn't tied down with a certain brand endorsement, then there's those snobby rich kids or show offs who want to show to the world they have Eden (use to know one A55hole like this).. Then lastly, those few of you out there who are the audiophiles in the bass guitar world and want one of the clearest and greatest tones available (all tones from low to mids to highs).

Then there's me... Always Wanted Eden.. but always unwilling to ever buy an Eden over brands like Ampeg because Ampeg offered extreme size and over the top power at cheap prices while Eden could only offer tiny and lower wattage (but superior sounding) equipment at the same price range...

However, when I was faced with this once in a lifetime price on Eden, it could not be passed up.. I bought that 2x10 without even trying it out! that's how significant this Sam Ash Close Out is. Eden's never go down in price and always retain most or all of their value when your ready to sell it (on eBay I've sometimes seen used Eden amps and cabs sometimes sell exactly or as little as $100 off what they sell for brand new retail)..

Calm down man. As you'll see by my rig, I am an Eden user too, but you need to stop sipping the kool-aid and take a dose of reality.

Eden gear is *very* cheap used nowadays because it's old tech, and it's everywhere. I could get D410XLTs on TB or Craigslist for $300-400 all week long, even back in Vermont. Compared to that, an extra hundred bucks here or there off the new price for an exceptionally heavy cabinet with unexceptional frequency response compared to more modern offerings isn't a huge deal.

I scored my entire "big rig" (WT400, D212XLT, D210XLT) for just over $1000. That's a *huge* loss of resale value over new. Even the Navigator preamp (still an excellent piece of kit) can be had for under $400 if you look.

It also doesn't help that they were bought by US Music, which created, erm, "hiccups" in customer service and has resulted in the introduction of a variety of Chinese-made Edens that, for whatever reasons, are simply viewed as "worse."

Advances in speaker and amplifier technology have created amps and speakers that can provide excellent tone and features at a much lighter weight, wider frequency response, and lower cost than new Eden gear as well, making the gear less "advanced" than it used to be.

Also, Eden is *notorious* for inflating specs (especially speaker responses and power handling) somewhat. If an XST 10" speaker can effectively reproduce 30Hz, it's highly unlikely that it would be able to do so at any appreciable volume. Plus, that sort of low-end response isn't necessarily important in a live mix anyways, since it sucks up huge amounts of wattage and speaker headroom and generally just contributes to the buildup of low frequency mud along with the kick drum and keys... assuming the sound guy hasn't just high passed you at 50-80 Hz anyway.

Don't get me wrong; I love my WT400. But it's not the end-all be-all of bass tone. Not even in the market Eden used to dominate.

Somebody drank the marketing Kool-aid.:D I have owned 4 Eden Heads, 5 cabs and a metro combo. I use to have two 210xsts and they do not get down to 30hz with any volume believe me. Eden was top of the line gear 10 years ago. One of the best rigs I have ever owned was a WT-600 and a 410xlt. With David Nordchow leaving they are now a shell of what they use to be. I was an original crash test dummy for the 1205 which was a huge disappointment to me.

That's not too bad for new gear but $550 for a 2x10 is still a bit outrageous if you ask me. Eden gear is nice, but not THAT nice. Especially with the downward spiral they've been in for the last 2 or so years. And also since there's better stuff out there (Aguilar) for a little less.

PS - don't get me wrong, I like that warm Eden sound and have used a bunch of their gear. And they still seem to have a big following in country music (the metro combo specifically). But as has been noted, there's lighter, more durable, and better sounding gear out there these days for the same price or less.

I haven't tried any of those "Chinese" made Edens.. yeah, i guess those could be bad, but at least they sell them for what they are (Lower End and Cheaper Priced).. but as for the core products like the World Tour Amps and The E Series Cabinets, those are still hand built here in the USA from Grade A Products and even the cabs use Solid Pieces of Plywood and not that shredded stuff which I know my Ampeg uses :) even they make their own speakers.

However it is great to say, even though Eden is owned by US Music Corp, they have actually ended up improving these core products, mainly the cabinets.. with the introduction on speakers that can handle greater frequency range, available in 4 or 8 ohm, and higher wattage. in addition the WT1205 which basically takes the WT800 and turns it into a 2 channel power machine (which can be bridged of course)..

Also the new XST series of Eden speakers introduced greater portability.. they gotten lighter and slightly slimmer.

Regardless of this, i am sure if this side project ever goes on stage at the larger venues here in Hollywood and Los Angeles that I will no doubt end up using my Ampeg rig instead as I know this tiny Eden rig won't be able to cut it to my standards, even with PA/Engineering assist.

Also the main reason for my Eden Cab Purchase and soon to be Eden Amp Purchase of mine will just be my portable instrumental rig and something that can fit in the car along with a bass in it's hardcase..

Amp what whatever else goes on the floor, the speaker goes on the seat, and the bass guitar stands up in-between the two...

and I was serious when I said I have virtually no trunk space in one of my earlier post (the car's rear differential takes up most of the space).

i needed a bit extra on the bottom end. the 8x10 just couldn't accomplish that on it's own. it's loud and powerful on it's own... but doesn't "shake the place" or "make it difficult to breathe when standing in front of it" like a 15" could.. yeah, it does knock items off shelves and shake the place too.. but it's just not the same... i guess just different frequency or db.

I use it for Death Metal, and use an A tuning and sometimes drop lower than that with an octave effect, so any extra deep and bottom end is welcomed, especially paired with my Sonic Maximizer. also I run my rack in full stereo, so it has it's own individual tone controls and setup throughout the rack (every rack component is dual channel and has individual controls for each), So on top of being deeper sounding compared to the punchier 8x10, i have it's tone set differently so it provides a full range of sound on demand (I sometimes use a foot switch in my rig and make the 8x10 go high and jazzy while leaving the 1x15 deep and heavy)... In other words, I can bust a clean solo and/or some high bass lick/tap while maintaining heavy deep earth shaking noise.

I also have the 1x15 because if the venue is small, I'll use it and leave the 8x10 at home, but preferably not do that as it robs me of "my sound" when it's alone. It Also makes a great stand for my rack as you can see.

As per your reciept pic it says DEMO, so cab should be discounted. I bought a used 410XLT a couple years ago and I really like that cab's tone. I paid less for it than you did for your 210 but it was local, still in very good condition. But man, it weighs a ton for me to schlep alone. I bought a used, UL410-II ( two actually) and even as the heavier II series, it feels much, much lighter than my 410XLT. I move it alone to my gigs easily now. Different tone for sure but works fine for my band(s) needs.

As much as I hated to, I sold the Eden cab since I own 6 other cabs, 112, 210, 212x2, 410x2. I just don't think I'd ever use the Eden again and it was just taking up room in my spare room where I keep my gear. And I only lost $25 to resell it recently. But I kept the LeCover that came with it when I bought it....was that wrong? ;)

I also owned a WT550B, sold it here, no $$ loss there either. I still own a older D210T modded w/Em Deltalight drivers. I posted it for sale on local CL, no bites yet, so its gonna go to the practice space and stay there now.

Finally, for used-like-new gear, TB is the place I prefer to shop. I think there is a 210XLT for like $400-$450 here now, that's a great deal ( more like OK deal, now that I think of it ) if you're looking for that kinda thing. Otherwise, enjoy your Eden gear, I did.

Seriously, this reads like ad copy.

Also, I bet your 1x15 (unless it's a massive sub with serious biamping) will add *anything* appreciable to an 8x10. Hell, your average 4x10 will drown out a 1x15.

I can appreciate you like having something that sounds good and fits in a convertible, but there are plenty of lighter, smaller, and louder cabs that do the same. Hell, my Audiokinesis Thunderchild THRASHES my 210XLT at half the weight. Only reason I haven't gotten rid of the 210 yet is because I'm not sure I'll get enough for it to justify shipping the damn thing.
