NBD Beat Up Botiques boutique 1.5 (FBass Content)

Recently, I have become enamored with the idea of the beat up boutique bass. When I say "beat up" I do not mean trashed, but instead visual damage to minor playability damage. As long as I can play it and enjoy it, it is good enough for me.


This FBass certainly delivers what I want. It is (I think) a neck thru 5 string BNF. It is passive which I prefer in a fretless, and because of some headstock damage that seems to be repaired, I was able to get it for next to nothing.

It definitely needs some work. For one, the G buzzes out in the first position. However, I think this can be rectified with a new nut as the current one is way too low for my tastes. I also want to have the headstock repair checked out. When I pick up my Alembic and Fender from Mr. Pensa's shop, I'll definitely have them take a look at it. For now, pics. 335493[/ATTACH]

I love this post! Best new thread idea that's come along in a while. While I currently have nothing to personally contribute, you have me g.a.s.ing to start looking. And... subscribed! :D

I saw it on GC, but I'm not in the market and have my fretless needs more than covered.

I used to have a passive BNF; it was a great bass! I'd also played a beat up, neck through gold fretless BNF6 once, and also...great bass.

Very cool BNF and thread idea. It is definitely a neck through and if you ever pull your pickups out, pm me the serial # and I can give you a little history behind her...as well as the wood used under that solid finish. I noticed you're in NY, if you ever travel a little up north we'd be happy to help bring her up to factory specs.

Great thread and some cool looking basses! The FBasses age nicely.

Gotta be honest though, I won't touch anything with a headstock repair. Other cosmetics not a problem. I can think of 2 recent situations, neither of which were boutiques but good basses, where there was a crack that was repaired. Maybe I'm missing out on some great deals but seems like headstock cracks only occur when something very bad happens to the bass.

That said, great looking bass and have I'd be a little more willing to take a risk with a bass like this.
