Thanks to Marcel Furlanetto, I now know all about my newest bass!

Your BNF5 was made in 1990 and was simply named "The 5 String Fretless" back then. She's made with a 5 piece Maple/Padauk neck through construction, Alder body wings, and Gabon Ebony fingerboard and bridge. The finish is "Platinum Pearl"...only 1 of 2 in F Bass history.

I think the fact that it is a five piece neck (of Maple and Padauk no less) is the reason why the neck is still stable even with the bad headstock crack. With a new nut (I like my action high), I may have just found a new keeper as I transition to five and six string fretless extended scale basses.

Wow, very cool topic, never though these boutique basses would age so well!

Perhaps somewhere down the road I should get one of these as well and play the hell out of it for 30 years...

Or do what I did. Buy an aesthetically "ruined" but ostensibly playable boutique for a fraction of the price of a new one. Be sure you can play it first, or at least return it for free though.
