^ has been my method too. I don't want to be "led" by a preset ( sometimes to my detriment... lol). I look at presets to see what ingredients are needed for cerain sounds then strike out on my own. I win more times than not, but even when I lose I learn and am more in-tune with my investment.

^ Some pedals have a limited amount of presets (if you don't have MIDI controls on your board). So if you have more than that # saved to the app you might roll different pre's into the pedal (for say a second set after an interlude) vs not really tuning the individual presets on the fly.
