I'll have a look at those excercises as well. The bits causing the most pain don't really offer much other choice of fingering I'm afraid, just a sudden shift an octave up, and I'm trying my best to do a genuine position change rather than slide my way up.

Thanks for the replies! I'm glad to hear that other people have experienced the same problems! I guess I'll speak to my teacher and see if there's any way I can improve my technique in changing position. @Seanto, I'm surprisingly not a nail-biter, and my nails are generally quite long!
