Many a bad idea but perhaps shim the neck a little to be able to raise the action on the bridge screws and then the downward pressure from the strings on the saddles might prevent the saddles from sliding side to side?

You and others seem to think that a thicker string might not be the answer.. Someone suggested flats. I already have chromes on another bass and it has more even tone but also another sound. Flats are awesome but maby not on every bass I have.. Maby I just should not think so much and just play...

I quite often find myself using the end of the neck as my thumbrest live, just to get a more fat and even tone.

Hello! D´addario have a string set called exl160 set with 50-105 string gauge. I now use xl165 (45-105) strings and I wish that a the D and G would be a little fatter sounding on my P bass. I tend to use E and A sting a lot, D string is "ok" but the G string only is for faster licks that does...

I don't think that I will be able to fell a difference in tension in a blind test. But I don't care that much about difference in string tension... I think I like a little softer feel but both strings are perfectly fine for me when it comes to playability.

I might be the one of the few on TB that actually really like the fender "standard". I bought a set of EXL165, and on my MIM P bass with the older ceramic pickups it became way to bright for my taste.. it just didn't blend well in the mix to my ear/taste. Its a good string with tight bottom...

Yeah, But i really think there is difference in sound between how things contact, like a nut, neck pocket and so on.. Could be imagination/placebo but I think i can hear differences. But I dont believe, lets say that a certain bridge always Will make the same difference on all basses. But...

My understanding is that a string vibrates differently depending on what it is ancored to. It can dampen some vibrations/frequences and The pickup picks up that. But Im not an engineer so I can be wrong, and I think its ok to believe in tonewood, or to not so.

Yes its fenders bent bridges. Its not the ground, I have made a small scratch towards one bridge screw that the wire lies in and connects directly to the screw without touching the bridge. Loosening the screws does not help either.. I guess i could stick sandpaper under the bridge and flatten...

Besides the classic dead spot on fret 5-7 on the G string I have noticed this, and it bugs me even more than the G string. For many people sustain isn't an issue, but I play lots of whole notes sometimes held for 2 bars, so for me it is important. Some basses have what I would call weaker spots...
