Squier Classic Vibe 2019

Exactly same depth as a Jazz but with 42mm width at the nut point.

So, kinda wide and flat profile? Something like 0.74-0.78" af first fret? My MIM jazz is like that at first fret and not even 0.9 at 12th fret.

This new classic vibe is really interesting, but if it´s like a jazz neck and aint around 0.8 at first and 0.9-1" at 12th fret I think I won't like the neck.. :(

Thinking seriously about getting one of these! I've played the 5 string Squier Affinity and surprisingly really liked it. I'd be hoping that these have a similar string spacing and playability, only better quality.
They do indeed have the same string spacing.
What I find amazing is that the Classic Vibe 70’s Jazz basses actually have 70’s pickup spacing! The VM 70’s have 60’s pickup spacing...
Makes me seriously want to get one.

After all this time I never knew that there was different pick up spacing. I knew about string spacing but not pick up. What’s the difference? I feel dumb.LOL

Since it’s inception, the pickups throughout the 60’s were about 3.7 inches apart. In the 70’s, not sure exactly when...I’m sure someone on TB knows...someone at CBS/Fender noticed that when the ashtray bridge cover is mounted to the bass, you could still see a bit of the bridge pickup sticking out. So someone at the design team decided to move the bridge pickup about 1/4” closer to the bridge to hide it under the cover 100%. An inadvertent effect was a honkier bridge pickup tone and a slightly more scooped slap tone when both pickups were on. This became hugely popular in 70’s funk music.

I think the J's popularity in funk was due more to guys like Larry Graham, etc. with 60s Jazzes showing how funky they could sound. I dont think the spacing really matters all that much.

Anyone have a line on where to get a different pick guard for this Squier 5'er?
I have only gotten pickguards for an Affinity Jazz V...a Standard PG for MIM should fit, however one that I got from WD had about a 1/8” gap between the bottom of the neck and the edge of the PG:
Here is a photo of that particular bass and PG:

Another note; I installed a PG from a Vintage Modified Jazz V onto an Affinity and it seems to have the same issue. So I’m not sure if it is isolated to the Affinity itself, of if it’s just the way some PG’s are cut.
It’s really not an issue on a black bass like the one in the photo, but maybe it will show on a lighter-colored bass...

In any event, a PG spec’ed for MIM Jazz V’s will fit the Squiers.
