The Yamaha TRBJP2 on a whim?

Hey Thumper, The latest Nathan East was one possibility as well for me. It shares some features with the jp2, such as those nice pearloid tuning keys. In reality, I'd probably be better off relative to my current playing situation with the Nathan East 5er. It's just that I felt like I...

The Yamaha TRBJP2 on a whim?

I've been through some heavy emotional stuff lately (death of soul mate and fall out from family), and decided to part with a fair chunk of change on a bass. I wanted something to be more on the ultra expressive side of bass, but not going too far into the boutique rabbit hole. I, while a mite...

Need Help.. Trying to identify my first 'fine/real' Bass, a Music Man

It's still there. And while the place was already quite large they annexed other building(s). A wonderland for music newbies and pros alike. The used selection was always overpriced and they gave practically nothing for your gear. But overall, not many brick and mortar places like that.

Possibilities for an Ampeg B2 4x8 combo. Suggestions?

I guess one simple question would be is there an amp that might make sense fitting into that space with more usable power.

Need Help.. Trying to identify my first 'fine/real' Bass, a Music Man

I suppose it could have been an ash like this with some nice grain and kinda orangish. I seem to recall more streaks of yellows and a wee few streaks of flaming red (but not a lot). Were all early Rays ash, or just natural or transparent ones? Link below, not sure why part of text in photo says...

Need Help.. Trying to identify my first 'fine/real' Bass, a Music Man

The above shown basses are rather typical burst like, the one I seem to recall was literally like a Sun explosion. Even the pickguard has me stumped a bit, almost imagining a see-through guard. I don't recall it being actually two or three toned. More like a wild possibly semi-exotic (to a...

Can someone recommend a book on Bass rigs and the options of connectivity?

I'm mainly looking for a book (if it exists), that will take you through the history of Gear and connections of electric bass rigs from the early days (starting in 60s would be fine). And most importantly, the morphing that took place as house sound advanced. Miking up amps, DI, and the variety...

Possibilities for an Ampeg B2 4x8 combo. Suggestions?

I have a USA made solid state 90s B2 4x8 Ampeg combo. Apparently, these were produced in considerably larger numbers with a 1x15 configuration, the 4x8 being considered semi-rare. It also had a good reputation for its tone versus the 15. I have come to like 8" speakers for Bass work. The SS...

Don't understand this 'suggestion' from the Ampeg website:

Maybe folks got part of what I was saying as bashing Ampeg. Well heck no. I already own an SVT CL, an SVT 15EN, and was just contemplating an 410he (pending if it's an SVT or B series). I just didn't like the marketing lingo. I thought it to be a downright lie. The 410 does lows better than...

Don't understand this 'suggestion' from the Ampeg website:

I myself sometimes find the ooey gooey sales and marketing speak a bit much in many magazine and web based lingo. I see it all the time, and have become accustomed to it. My issue here, is this BS came from the page that publishes the spec sheet for that specific gear. We know that within spec...

Don't understand this 'suggestion' from the Ampeg website:

Yea, I could see marketing bending some absolutes, but geez, isn't this a flat out lie as to how they explain this will work. That can't be a good look for Ampeg.

    Ampeg B410HE cab vs. SVT 410HE ??

Thanks, this is one question where I really should have done a few TB searches prior to posting. Jumped the gun. Found what I needed. If mods want to delete, be my guest. Sorry.

Don't understand this 'suggestion' from the Ampeg website:

Here is the literature from the SVT 15e cab page: When only the fat, warm sound of a 15” speaker will get the job done, we highly recommend the SVT-15E. Armed with a massive five-pound magnet, the SVT-15E’s custom-designed 15” speaker generates chest-thumping low end like nobody’s business—all...

    Ampeg B410HE cab vs. SVT 410HE ??

So I've got a bead on what was described in the local trader paper as an Ampeg 410 cab. When I called I asked for the model designation, and was told (after he checked) that it was a 410HE. Lightly used, about 6/7 years old. Asking $150, but I know around here that usually means I could get it...

Throwing this gear together, make it work. Hamhead + SVT + 1x15 various

I know what your saying. I've always come up with some wild untested stuff. The HamHeads remind me of automotive speakers for jamming in your car. I've hooked them up to a variety of poweramps with misc pres, also guitar amps and stereo amplification. They look extremely well built close up...
