Only ONE bass related item in 2018...what would it be? And why?

I'm on the search for a backup bass for my Fender P, without just buying another one. Having enjoyed my new Minion bass, I am tempted to go for the Jackson Concert PJ, or perhaps a Jaguar or Mustang if I decide to go for shortscale. That, and/or a nice Orange amp....

    NBD - Jackson Minion Dinky

It’s actually very much like a Guitar Hero controller.... except that it’s preferctly serviceable as an instrument!

    NBD - Jackson Minion Dinky

So I went and got my first short scale bass. I was looking at the Jaguars and the Mustangs and the SGs but they just weren’t quite hitting my buttons. Then I stumbled upon this (held bottom to bottom against my Precision for scale): Pretty cheap (€192) and pretty tiny, it’s a lot of fun to...

    Best Gear Purchase in 2017

Mine was a Rat clone by ENO called Myomorpha. €26 with a vintage and turbo mode. Great! It’s my favourite because it sounds great and cost less than a pack of strings. Close second would be the MXR bass octave deluxe, which is the finest octaver I’ve tried and great in our band. Sounds very...

Does anyone make a short scale flatwound set in: 40, 60, 80, 100 gauges?

Het is wel een makkelijke fout om te maken ;)

When I first installed flats to my P, the E was dead sounding. Traced the problem to the silk sitting on the bridge saddle. Scraped it back a little and problem solved. A bit of metal on metal is what you need.

Does anyone make a short scale flatwound set in: 40, 60, 80, 100 gauges?

In my limited research, since I ordered a 28.5" Jackson Minion last night (!) I believe that some brands don't do anything but make the strings shorter, whereas others will use a thicker core on the short strings to keep the tension up. OP, I wouldn't get too hung up on the gauges of the...

Jackson launch competition to Ibanez Mikro!

I suppose it’s a matter of taste. I prefer the look of the Jacksons, never been a fan of Ibanez’s less traditional shapes. If it proves to be a worthy instrument I’m think of buying one of each of the guitars also, with an idea that my son can learn on them in a few years if he wishes (and why...

Jackson launch competition to Ibanez Mikro!

Lol they look like foot switches. Maybe I just came up with a fun idea. The geezer set comes with new pots anyway so I’ll use those....

Jackson launch competition to Ibanez Mikro!

Looks nice... what do the switches do in place of the volume knobs? On / off I guess for the pickups, but what about tone? I just ordered a Neon Green one to upset a few people. Planning to get the EMG PJ Geezer Butler pickups at a later date, unless I get along with the stock pups. Now I'll be...

    Why do you play?

I play for a few reasons. I love music. I love to make music. I love to learn and expand myself mentally. I love to share the music with my son. The rest I can take or leave.

    OMG, He's using a PICK!!!!

I primarily pick too. I use my fingers for songs that have a more staccato line, I find using two fingers to play and mute works well - I can’t palm mute in the same way I can on a guiiar.

    OD/Boost Pedals

Can’t any overdrive be used as a boost? That’s basically what it is. Drive knob down, volume knob up, and away you go.
