Best Gear Purchase in 2017

I started the year off by saying, " no spending $ on anything on gear this year!"
Sense then I bought an Aguilar ag 700, Phil Jones big head, Ampeg Svt 3 pro, a cheap peavey 115, true tone H2o, pigtronix envelope phaser, Trace Elliot Elf, Cort Fretless Bass, snark tuner, multiple strings. And I'm sure I forgot something.
Next year no gear purchases. Except maybe a DNA cab.

Well it is new thus better then the old.
None of us "needs" new gear... But change is the spice of life.

My absolute best buy is the Trace Elliot Hexa Valve. There is no return to solid state (the Darkglass m900 is a backup amp now). That valve thing is just so lively and warm and powerful and big sounding (maybe because it actually IS big). Wow!

So I started playing bass again this year. I picked up an Aguilar Tonehammer 350 Amp as well as a 1x12 Aguilar cabinet. Best purchases and where I ended up for the year are these:
Nash PB-57
Fender Dimension Elite 5
EBMM Stingray Stealth 4H

Hands down the best thing I bought in 2017 was my G. Gould ggi5. I bought it from the Bass Place and it was on sale cheap. That bass is so good that I bought a ggi6 off Reverb and it is simply the best bass I have ever owned. I have owned a lot of basses and many from Spector, Ken Smith, Roscoe, Yamaha, Zon and Modulus. My G. Gould 6 is simply fantastic. It also happens to be the lightest bass I own at 8 pounds, 10 ounces.

I bought and sold a lot of gear in 2017. No basses were welcomed to the herd or left the house, though.

The best things that happened to me in 2017:

-Hercules HCGS-402B Instrument stand. I always used those tiny Ibanez stands at home because they look cool and when you fold them up, they just fit anywhere. But resting a 6 string singlecut on uneven ground in one of those is a gamble I was not willing to take on stage. This one really gave me some comfort since my bass always has a place to go when I'm playing out.

-Sansamp Programmable BDDI. This pedal rocks. I send it to the board and recieve compliments on my tone, both from audience and FOH. It's not the most sparkly boutique preamp there is. It is a tool that works. I have a normal tone, a fat dubby tone and an overdrive tone on there and learned that this is, in most cases, all I need.

-barefaced Super Compact. This cabinet is hard to believe. It replaced a much bigger cab in my setup, sporting less than a third of its weight and half the speaker surface, but delivering the same volume and, this is the part that's hard to believe, more bass.

2017 saw the arrival of a G-K MB 800 head. Now I truly have an urban dweller's subway-portable rig of joy for when there's no backline: the G-K fits in the pocket of my gig bag so is on my back with my bass and then I have a Barefaced Super Midget in one hand and MetroCard in the other. Word.

Mine was a Rat clone by ENO called Myomorpha. €26 with a vintage and turbo mode. Great!

It’s my favourite because it sounds great and cost less than a pack of strings.

Close second would be the MXR bass octave deluxe, which is the finest octaver I’ve tried and great in our band. Sounds very nice with guitar too, as you might expect.
