    Flats and various basses

I finally bought a set of Thomastik-Infeld jazz flat 34's for my EBMM Stingray 4H. Brought them to a shop to have a setup and the tech broke the G string. He, "never heard of them, you should get a refund". His eyes popped out when I told him how much they cost. I ordered a single string...

    First world problems.

Do you have any idea how difficult it is to find a pair of 3D glasses that stay on in a bouncy castle????

    Sleep is Important

I too have gigged for many years while holding down a day job. Friday night gigs at the end of my work week have always been a struggle. Especially the 10pm-2am set. I never drink too much during my gigs, except the one time I tried to fight exhaustion by drinking red bull vodkas.... The band...

    Texting while Drumming?

I used to play with a guy who would not only text during live shows, but at bar gigs he'd order from the waitress and literally eat chicken wings... while playing.... Probably the best drummer I've ever played with, but was a total dick personality. What I refer to as an "artist dick".

    Reggae Bassists Club!!!!

As life has moved along, half of my band has started families and dispersed to different parts of the country. We've never formally announced disbanding, so we still get the occasional booking request. We just got an offer to open for the Wailers next month in Portland......... if it were two...

Why do bassists tend to be heftier fellows?

I wish I was fatter. When I see a fat dude holding a bass, I know I'm in for a treat. (insert joke about treats here) JUAN NELSON!! Invalid Link Removed

Where Did You Buy Your First Bass?

First bass was a red short scale Cruise (VMI).. My parents ordered it out of a Sears catalog in 1990! My first performance was a recital for the music store I took lessons at. We played "Unchained" by Van Halen. Its in a drop D tuning, and since I hadn't figured out how to tune like that yet...

Releasing Songs vs. EP vs. Albums

Its nice to have an album as merch if you plan on touring. People usually only want to buy one cd, not multiple EP's when going out to see live music. It does however help maintain an online presence by releasing only a couple tracks at a time.. You could do both...

Can anyone recommend hearing protection for musicians?

I really liked the vented Doc's Proplugs.. The trick is getting the right size. You can order the combo packs that come with a variety of sizes, or just put the size chart up next to your ear and choose that way.. They are the best inexpensive option available. They block the really loud lower...

    Bass budget = $1,000. Help!

I play in hip-hop/reggae-rock bands and use a Carvin bb75, 5 string.. I couldn't ask for a better bass for the genre. I strongly recommend getting your feet wet with a five string. I played a 4 for almost 20 years before I went to a 5 and I have no idea why I waited so long. Especially for...
