Used Fender American Standard J
More bottom than a P. Most hip hop guys seem to use a J or J style bass.
I thought Sandberg's were a lot more expensive than that. I've played one and thought it was a very nice instrument.
They're pretty expensive alright min €1000 for the made in Germany models (around $1300) however they started making an off shore line of basses called 'Electra' same electronic hardware except assembled in the Far East, no frills but great quality and value. A p and j bass model are available, both active I think.
After reading through these responses, I think I'll definitely give 5-strings another shot. I've only played them briefly, and each time my reaction has been "No! Ugh! Too weird!" I'll give it the ol' college try though, because "get a 5-string, stupid" has been a common theme in this thread.![]()
You don't have to spend $1000 on a single bass to get a great oneunless you REALLY want to. And it's nobody's business if you do. If your economics are such that it doesn't matter, indulge yourself. But it's not a requirement. Especially for your first instrument.
Buy used, unless you have a jones.
