    Gas no none nada

No band, no gigs and no GAS? Time to check your vital signs. I mean, something really might be wrong with you!

Not a bassist, but R.I.P., sax great David Sanborn....

Thank you Winston. I agree and cannot resist posting this unfortunately visually substandard video starring David Sanborn with some of my favorite musicians. People like Steve Jordan playing drums with most members of NRBQ's most classic lineup. So many great comments tonight from everyone...

    Rounds vs. Flats

Using a pick-- this is what I do when playing the loud rock! Running through a decent Ampeg amp and 810 at the rehearsal space with an American Deluxe Precision and brand new setup with Labella FL's, I'm finding it almost impossible to hear the onset of the note without a pick. I'm also not...

Bass players talking about their basses: Favorite clichés?

Oh yeah, almost forgot... In addition to throwing new string sets around, I also have a STRONG tendency to “slap” things onto my bass whether it be new strings, a bridge, or new pickups, etc.

Bass players talking about their basses: Favorite clichés?

When did people start throwing string sets on their bass guitars? Lol, that’s all I see anymore! “Just threw on a new set of blah blah blahs and boom”. I guess simply putting new strings on your bass isn’t exciting enough anymore. Or, Lordy forbid— not manly enough. I’m open (if doubtful) to...

Which SWR cabs were the best of SWR?

After a few years of steady gigging with the inaugural Ampeg SVT non-pro head (#127) and matching 8x10 cab, I switched out to an all SWR rig consisting of an SM-400, the BBE Sonic Maximizer, 4x10 Goliath and Big Ben cab. The modular aspect appealed to me a great deal despite being a strapping...

Best current Fender Precision Bass series?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but when the line was announced, I read somewhere that if vintage small frets matter to you, Vintera is currently the only non Custom Shop option for it.

    NAMM Photos

Any changes to this model? Doesn't look like it. I've been wanting to hear one of these plugged into a good amp. Oh well, glad to see Epiphone going forward with these. Maybe someday. . .

    NAD- Ampeg micro vr stack

Hmmm, running 3 of these little 2x10 sealed cabs is something I never considered before now. You'd need a head that runs at 2 ohms and there are options for that of course. Bigger sealed cab tone I'd guess, maybe gets you a little closer to the sound of the big guy in three easy schleps.

    Fender Bassman Blackface

Check out David Shriver's early black face Bassman rig with Trini Lopez. What a sound! I know, just a 3 piece, not playing all that loud, etc. Still, Dave is quite the gifted bass player, with great tone, wonderful use of harmonics, and the best bass player dance moves ever!!! Grab your...

    “Jolene” slowed down sounds amazing.

NBD- Fender P bass in Jade Metallic

Exactly my thought. Another idea, and I know it sounds crazy to choose an alternate pickguard with such a subtle contrast to the current one, but I'd love to see what mint looks like on there. A white pearl guard would make this bass look even more amazingly beautiful if that's what you want...

Are Lightweight Plastic Cabinets Coming Soon ??

The carbon layer, called graphene, is almost transparent. But it is really strong. And with almost unlimited potential applications, ranging from lightweight planes and energy storage devices to nano-electronics and medical equipment, it has got the science community genuinely excited.

    NBD my first american Fender

Stick with white or go pearloid. Wife happens to be sitting next to me and definitely thinks a white pickguard looks perfect on that bass. Let me add....Rarely does she agree so readily and I run this kind of stuff by her all the time. 4 thumbs up for the maple board!
