Thank you for your honesty. This may be the most truth I’ve ever received from another musician. I understand it takes all of who we are and more. It’s never easy and why should it be? Anything worth having takes considerable effort and time. Thank you again. You’ve been beyond helpful.

I mostly need to collaborate with the guitarist outside of band practice. I've known him way before we played together. So getting him to open up to co-writing is the main thing now. Thank you all for the wisdom. This is a great community.

    Leading a band

It’s a new project. I see it very possible that I will have to establish leadership because I have my strong ideas. The guitarist and I will hopefully co-lead for some amount of time but I am not interested in staying as just the bass player. I am interested in multi instrumental expression and...

I meant the bassists I’ve met locally. I’m very certain it takes a lot of time and effort. I agree about the benevolent dictatorship thought. Thank you for these points. I’m grateful for your input.

looking for thoughts and advice on taking the reign on musical direction for a band. I'm a very capable singer and bassist. Please tell me how those of you assert direction. I have a general sense but it's obviously an uphill battle.

    Why can't I play neck-through basses? w/ Poll

Once you play a modulus or G Gould you really don't have to play a neck thru. But many things with sound are psychological and psycho-acoustical. So ultimately, let your instincts prevail.

    Why can't I play neck-through basses? w/ Poll

I agree completely. I've owned a Pedulla Thunder Bass and some much less pricey neck through basses. But I've always preferred bolt on. Sustain on neck throughs is maybe the only thing that I remember the most.

    G. Gould Club!

It sounds like a refined Stingray in ‘bucker mode. Very jazz bass like in single coil mode.

Any pick players in the house?

Also note that David Gilmour played bass on a bunch of the albums. "One of these Days" is both Roger and David. You can hear it when you listen actively. I'd stick with whatever strings you like. But round wounds are what I've used. The pick is a personal preference. I use the same size on...
