not to be overly commercial here, but there is a way to do a 34" 5-string. I don't really like to do it for a couple of reasons. First, you'll just get a better tone with 35" scale, and second, it ends up being a custom build, which is slower, and slightly costlier. But you may see Andy West soon on the Dregs reunion tour, and he has been rehearsing on a new bass, which is a 34" scale 6-string (on a 5-string neck) with 26 frets. Geoff favors stainless strings.

That makes sense. My GGi4 had nickel strings on it when I received it that were a little dead. The bass was in excellent, could-pass-for-new condition, but I wonder if the original owner had swapped out the originals for their strings of choice. I put a set of Dunlop Super Bright nickels on it and they sound good and play well, but seem to be missing some presence. Does anyone know what Geoff puts on the GGi4's from the shop?

I ended up putting Thomastic jazz rounds on my GGi5. absolutely love them but they are low tension so not for everyone I'd guess

Looks gorgeous! How does that EMG MM pickup in the bridge sound?

The bridge pickup is actually a TW, which means it can be switched between hum bucker and singlecoil. That way, you can get a J Bass sound, as well as a MM sound, and plenty of others.

It sounds like a refined Stingray in ‘bucker mode. Very jazz bass like in single coil mode.

Been experimenting with strings on this guy. The nickel strings (Dunlop Super Brights) sounded very good. Decided to try stainless and put on a set of DR Lo-rider SS 40-100. I've used this particular set for many years on one of my basses and I really like them on the GGi4. Nice presence, but not harsh even with the treble boosted slightly. The tone on the neck pickup soloed is exceptional, but I noticed that also with the nickel set. IMHO this bass has one of the best sounding neck pickups out there.
