A pbass pickup-cover change that caused electronics to fail

This really killed me. Dropped my phone, hit that spot and the laquer came off. Alot of laquer.

I replaced the old one with a this one, no. No issue with neck. I meant the gap along the whole front, from the neck to the the lower part :) and one does not see it from a normal view distance

More distress? Its a minor gap between the body and the pickguard: Is this considered normal?

Replaced the pickguard with a non-laqered one: The pickguard did fight abit, so i ended up with a scratch on the neck.

Thank you for that information regarding laquered pickguards :) Ohh, indeed, the combo of maple and anodized aluminium is superb. Sadly yes, mine is the same way - minor red color.. its more of a two tone color. I kinda like this one: Another 58- and almost all laquer has been worn off. And...

Cool! Always good with new info:) So, if i got this right, the original 57-58 and 59 had their pickguard laquered? ( too tired :P ) This beauty sat me back alot, but heck - it was worth it. Had it for 3 months now, already starting to age. You know, the clusters of scratches, a dent, etc etc...
