if you do go v-drums, it would be nice to capture the MIDI out so you have the option of using it to re-trigger real acoustic kit samples (or the vdrum module) and/or place hits on various parts of the beat, adjust velocity, etc...

I use that EMG config and it is awesome for articulate snap. Rock and roll baby! If you want thick blub blub - i.e. the blob, go the other way though.

I have an original WH10 wah. I haven't used it with bass in a LONG time, but i don't recall it being so wonderful. Then again, I haven't tried many wah pedals with my bass. I sometimes use an auto-wah on bass though. the wh10 is great for guitar. Not my thing for bass however.
