    Potential Rickenbacker Purchase

Meant to say earlier thank you for this advice and suggestion! I’ve currently got a Ric Hi-Gain in the neck pickup but I’ve been thinking of swapping it out with a toaster for a little more classic look (again, that McCartney influence) and I know the bridge definitely needs to be replaced as...

    Potential Rickenbacker Purchase

It’s Matsumoko, it’s autocorrecting and I just assume if I source out the necessary replacement parts and then have someone do the work it might cost a decent chunk of change (wiring harness plus new pickups plus labor). I’m just speculating, I won’t know for sure til I cross that bridge .

    Potential Rickenbacker Purchase

True, I’ve been reading the comments and perhaps I was hasty trying to and blow up my credit with a potentially irresponsible decision. I’ll repair the copy, it’ll probably be half the cost of what it would be of a used Ric. The copy has served me well these 20th years (gosh knows what its...

    Potential Rickenbacker Purchase

It’s mighty tempting! I’m not bothered by th lack of binding on neck and body, I’m used to it thanks to my copy, and I never use the second output either for that “stereo sound”. So I’m already leaning that way! I’d seen a 4003S from 2016 one in maple (or natural) finish that has been calling...

    Potential Rickenbacker Purchase

So I hope this isn’t a foolish question, I came into a big line of credit recently and it coincides with my longtime 70s Matsumoto Ric copy beginning to cut in and out when I’m in the middle position (alongside a general feeling the electronics are starting to deteriorate, especially with the...

Have looks ever deterred you from trying a bass?

I could go either way, as I really enjoy some of the funkier, offbeat designs as I both know they’ll be my own unique thing and if it feels good in my hands and strapped on it’s a winner. But I do refrain from most Ibanez, BC Rich, or Metal kind of guitars (with the exception of the one...

Buying Tips For A Cracked MIM Fender J Bass

I did forget to post this, that $500 actually wasn’t the original asking price, the seller apparently came down from an even higher number, possibly under the impression that it says Fender on the headstock that it equals big money, but as you all are saying I’d be a fool to even foot anything...

Buying Tips For A Cracked MIM Fender J Bass

Groovy gang, that’s what I wanted to know. I’m no expert but I know for that price I’d expect it to be in much better shape to throw that much moolah at it.

Buying Tips For A Cracked MIM Fender J Bass

I came across this ad on Facebook Marketplace for a 2006 Fender MiM Jazz bass, and I dig the aged white (assuming it’s white, it looks too cream to be yellow) and what appears to be a cool killswitch, but what made me pause was the seller stating the nasty crack on the back of the body, but...

    Hofner-(not just Beatle Basses)-Group Part 2

Hey there, this was a pretty good old thread I used. Basically you’re not gonna have an accurate dating for your Club unlike the German Hofner, but you can get a good idea of what it *might* be if it were made in the German factory...

    Hofner-(not just Beatle Basses)-Group Part 2

Chiming in, I bought my Ignition back in December, one of two that were on the rack at Guitar Center. The one I bought clearly had the flatwound strings, felt pretty good between my fingers, compared to the other one which was newer and had the roundwound strings. The one I picked up was the Pro...

The joys (NOT) of playing an unfamiliar bass (Hofner)

Very well could’ve been the same one! That’s still cool you got to work with Al, he always seems like quite the gentle spirit even back in The Beach Boys heyday.

The joys (NOT) of playing an unfamiliar bass (Hofner)

This photo always blows my mind because It’s probably the only documented evidence of Paul and Stu with their respective Hofner basses together at the same time, and sadly probably not too long before Stu’s tragic passing.

The joys (NOT) of playing an unfamiliar bass (Hofner)

I wonder if that was the one that Al and Carl (and Brian to a slightly lesser extent) shared during 1967, specifically the Smiley Smile and Wild Honey sessions and the August Honolulu shows that they intended for the live album Lei’d in Hawaii (that famous clip of Carl playing it while singing...
