Switching String Sets Back and Forth

Hey All - I'm looking at getting a new Fender p bass and wanted to know if I could switch sets of strings on and off depending on the gig. I usually only play flatwounds but I would love this bass to be my "modern" sounding bass with roundwounds for weddings, cover bands, etc. However when I...

    Help! (Kay Bass Identification)

Hi, thanks for the response. I actually found an old Kay catalogue (1955?) that had this model listed. It confirms that they were tuned D G B E. I think the quote was “Now anyone can play bass...” Pretty odd indeed. It seems like it’s exactly the same as the k162 model but with a different pick...

Preparing a huge amount of songs quickly without charts

Agreed! Something that has really helped me is shorthand charting. Basically you write out the chords or specific part the first time they happen in the song but then for the rest of the form you just say “verse” or “chorus” instead of writing it all out again. It’s helped me through a lot of...

Where Should I Buy A Fender Bass in Tokyo, Japan?

Hey All, I'm going over to Japan in July for a couple shows and need recommendations on where to shop for Fender Japan basses. I wanted to grab a Mustang while I'm over there. I'm assuming it's cheaper than buying over here in the states?

Rickenbacker HB-1 vs. 3000 series humbucker pickups

I'm trying to decide if I should replace the neck pickup in my 4001 with a HB-1 or a NOS 3000/3001 pickup. I love the way my 3001 sounds (like a pbass) but have never played a 4004 to find out with a HB-1 sounds like... I'm also a fan of how the HB-1 comes in a chrome mount so the 4001 would...

    2008/2009 MIM P Bass - $300???

Sorry for the late posting! Here she is though. Only one or two scratches on the back. Barely any sign of use really. Right now everything feels and sounds great so I'll probably just stick with everything until something needs to change. Thanks again everyone!

    2008/2009 MIM P Bass - $300???

Hey All, I'm having trouble deciding whether or not I should by a 2008/2009 p bass from a local store for $300... Is this a fair price? I'm thinking I would replace the pickup if need be (maybe custom shop '62).

    Help! (Kay Bass Identification)

While visiting my great uncle's house for Christmas yesterday he told me about how he used to play bass back in the day (60's) and how he still had his old bass. I'm not sure what I was expecting but he pulled out this Kay... it looks very similar to other Kay's I've seen online but the...

    NBD - Vintage Gibson

Awesome bass! I had a SB-450 but would have preferred the single coil pickups rather than the humbuckers. I've been on the lookout for a 300 or 400 so if you decide to ever sell let me know! Enjoy that awesomeness.

    1976 Rickenbacker 3001... Can't get a usable tone.

I've never been able to play a 3001 but if it's anything like the other Rics I've played then the bulk of the volume and sound comes from the bass knob and the treble knob acts more like tone adjustment. I've been trying to get my hands on one for some time though.
