Question Regarding "the Music Lesson" and practice

I found a few things I might like to try, such as concentrating on learning a technique but than practicing that technique while being distracted in order to learn how to use the technique without making it the focus, I thought that sounded like a good idea which I may try. Oh and the exercise...

Question Regarding "the Music Lesson" and practice

I was just wondering if any of you who have read Victor Wootens book or who have watched the Groove workshop DVDs, have made adjustments or added anything to your daily practice because of it. Im still reading the book but havent purchased the DVDs yet, thus far the only thing Ive just...

Man I just don't know how to get any better... anyone out there to help?

Heres a Quote from Victor Wooten in Answer to a question almost identical to yours from a 54 year old guy who wanted to play after not playing since high school. Kinda shows that theory is important as it relates to the bigger picture.

I want to play some cool funk, got any advices?

I think Richard Finch (Kc & Sunshine Band) is a great example of how a simple bass line can pump the funk out of a song. Nothing fancy , nothing too fast, but tasty booty inflating funk!:smug:

Man I just don't know how to get any better... anyone out there to help?

Take those simple songs and play them SLOWLY dont worry about keeping up, especially the parts that give you the most trouble play them very slowly, and dont worry about whether or not youll be able to play them, if you practice those parts slowly each day, YOU WILL be able to play them right...

    Shifting of Practice Focus

Sounds like an excellent way to learn and actually adopt or make these things a part of your own playing. Could someone give me perhaps a simple example of how to analyse the theory behind a bass line? How does one go about doing that in the best way? Do you simply try to determine the...

    Shifting of Practice Focus

Thanks for that Paul, good boost of encouragement. Sad thing is Ive always been able to play things by ear, when I was about 6 or 7 I could play songs on piano by ear, simple melodies one hand, and it was at that time that an uncle of mine told my parents "dont let him play instruments by ear...

    Shifting of Practice Focus

Im not sure whether or not its a good idea for me to be posting this, but I want to say that this is in no way meant to start arguments or debates. This is strictly a little mental battle that Im going through personally as a begginer. Ive talked to/ emailed quite a few bassists over the past...

By the way where does Vitti teach (city/state)? Ive corrosponded with him not long ago after seeing some of his vids and books, and he answered me right back, when I showed him all the modes and arpeggios I was practicing each day he said. "Im getting tired just looking over your practice...

    First Time with a Drummer

Well apparently I wasnt taken seriously, he didnt bother playing with me at all when I went by his house, he spent most of his time talking to his friends and eventually after a few hours of tinkering around in his basement where all the equipment is set up I left. Very discouraging. I...
