Thanks everyone! I figured copyright had something to do with the scarcity of notation available for free. I checked out those links -- good stuff. The songs I looked at seemed to be good transcriptions.

Does anyone know of any sources of free sheet music for bass on the internet? (Not tablature, but the dots on sticks kind.) Is the reason this kind of notation is relatively rare on the internet because of copyright concerns? Is it because there are a lot of people who can't read it, so...

I would suggest you switch to flatwounds on whatever the current best bass for metal (TM) is and don't forget to use a metronome when playing pocket pool. I mean playing in the pocket.

I have both the Squire VM P bass and the Squire VM Jaguar bass. Using the P pickup solo produces a tone that is, to me, pretty much indistinguishable from the VM P-bass.

The OP said that rolling off the tone knob doesn't change how it sounds. My guess is that you have a dirty/worn out/excessively inexpensive tone pot. I have a bass that does the same thing sometimes. The pot effectively switches between whatever resistance it would normally provide and open...

I realize that the OP was an eternity ago, but I believe they are Hartke strings.

They have red silk at both ends and silver balls with rounded corners. They look and feel like the outer winding wire is nickel/nickel plated. The outer winding wire seems larger than average gauge though, so they feel a bit coarse even though they lack the high friction feeling of steel...
