Why do a lot of bands tune to E flat?

People don't tune down because a singer sings flat. People tune down because a singer's vocal range is low. Some people are naturally low voice singers (Basses, Altos, and Baritones), and some people are naturally gifted with high voices (tenors and sopranos). Tuning down lets low voice singers...

Why do a lot of bands tune to E flat?

I tune down so I can sing in keys that make my voice sound the best. Being a baritone, I either tune down a step, or slap a capo on real high on the neck and sing down an octave. I think most people who think they can't sing really can sing, but are trying to sing in keys that are way too high...

Best musical advice you ever got

Dude, your timing sucks. You need to practice for a while with a metronome all the time before you play with me again. That was from my wife. She was right. My bass playing and rhythm guitar playing is much better now and I can actually play with other people! hahahah! Also, to paraphrase Jimmy...

Best musical advice you ever got

"Get a metronome and practice with it all the time." "If you can't do basic grooving in time you have no business doing anything else until you can."

SX Medium Scale Jazz Bass Bridge Replacement?

Hey guys, I just got one of these and I love it except for the bridge. Do y'all know what a good replacement bridge would be for it and where I can buy it? The Nut is 1 1/2 inches wide and the neck is 2 and 1/16 inches at the 12th fret. Any help would be appreciated.

Tal Wilkenfeld- And she can sing too!

I wonder of anyone would rave about Tal if she was a fat ugly guy. There are tons of players who can play circles around her in regard to chops, groove, and feeling. I saw 400 of them on youtube today. Her singing was pleasant but she doesn't sound like a professional. Her gimick is that she is...

Funkiest bass players who don't fit any typical stereo-type

If it's not about race, they why even bring it up?

Funkiest bass players who don't fit any typical stereo-type

Who said anything about race? I think they stereotype that was being talked about was more along the lines of "hey that guy is known for playing a style of music that's not usually considered funky" a.k.a. Metal in the Jason Nested instance. There is no need to make this about race. It's about...

I agree, man. Who gives a darn what color someone is? How does that have anything to do with how they play music?

Jeff's Thread. No Topic! Just Go for It. But, Be Nice!

I think understand what you are talking about. Music theory and physics don't change. They are universal and the nuts and bolts of whatever else you build on top of it. How you apply them is the "art" aspect. Is that correct? I learned to sing recently after taking many really bad lessons, I...

Jeff's Thread. No Topic! Just Go for It. But, Be Nice!

Ok, I know what a supposed chopbuilding exercise is. I've even seen books/articles/videos of people teaching them for guitar and bass. What I want to know is why you are saying that those aren't valid. How does one go about building their chops and being more proficient? Playing more difficult...
