Before I was a bassist, I was a very capable lead guitarist. Now I'm far better on bass than I could hope to be at guitar. Anyone who says that a guitarist can't become a darn good bassist is dead wrong. It's all about how you connect with the instrument and whether or not you take it seriously...

Generally, people use much thicker picks for bass. I'd recommend nothing smaller than a 1mm thickness. Pick-playing friends of mine always used Dunlop Stubby picks or a really thick Tortex of some sort. Bottom line, just try a bunch of 'em and see what you like.

I always preferred the P profile. That is, until I tried the jazz bass. I don't have very large hands so I can get around quicker/easier on a jazz than I can a P bass. I don't avoid a P though, they're fine by me.

With guitars, many people agree that a guitar with a 24.75 scale guitar will be more difficult to solo on, especially if it's 24 frets, than a 25.5 scale guitar. The frets on the shorter scale would be spaced closer together and while that makes rhythm playing easier, soloing is harder because...

I agree with the black epoxy suggestion. That'd cover the lines and make the board more durable (Though it'd probably cover up most of the wood grain on the board).

I have a compressor that always stays on, a pedal for light overdrive, a russian big muff for over-the-top fuzz, a wah and a 10-band eq. Those go on/off depending on what I'm playing.

Last time I bought a set of fender flats, they were shockingly bright to be flatwounds. Later on they settled into a really flat middy kinda tone. Pretty good "thump" on the low E and A strings, but the D & G stayed kinda bright and snappy. Dunno, I liked the GHS flats I had on it before better.

Dang... I've struggled over whether or not I could afford a $600 bass before, let alone 3 worth $6000! Haha guess he's happy though (though not as happy as the store I bet!)

Good lord, it's practically flawless. Someone must've treated this thing like a queen over the years. Rare to see a bass in that shape as old as it is.
