Help me identify this no name J Bass

It looks similar to the Harley Benton ($150ish) and Vintage ($300ish) versions. I have the Thomann version, as per this link, and it's a very good bass for the money. It'd work out cheaper to get one of these and have it delivered then to get the one above and put a new neck on it. All I've...

    Phonetically correct

Yeah, that all makes sense. Cultural conventions are very powerful, and our embodied minds, especially during childhood, do frame many choices, hence the ma/pa sounds. I'd like to point out, again, that bouba and kiki are terrible examples because they are so similar to the words they are...

Interesting, but it's cultural convention rather than "gr" innately sounding violent. The word 'devil' has certain connotations, but these are not part of the letter/sound "d", "e", "v", "i" or "l"; it's cultural convention.

It is obviously fun to play with words, particularly in a creative sense. &, if you feel something with a word then that's real to you and meaningful. My wife is babababo - that's meaningful to me... :D Once words are analyzed, they become particularly boring and less glamorous due to the...

^ I'm not saying which is older than the other; simply stating that a few dictionary definitions I looked at suggested indubitably was a more archaic form - however, in English, that specific dictionary statement is meaningless in this context because we're looking at how one says the word and...

So, under the same 'experimental conditions', if cognitive psychologists were to ask people which of the imaginary words asas and newloa was faster/slower then we could equally easily predict the results too (there are several other clear priming markers in both example other than repeated...

Some languages have a phonetic basis paralleling their spelling (Korean, for example), but English does not. Not really. Maybe a few animal sounds, but the concept you highlight isn't an aspect of English. Here's a light overview: Onomatopoeia - Wikipedia

Is it worth it to buy a "cheap" bass used?

I've bought a Harely Benton 70s bass for US$150 delivered - it's superb value for money and they have a solid returns policy, so I can't see a reason to risk buying a cheap secondhand bass unless you try it out and just really like it and feel the price is right.

How close am I to being kicked out?

If you have two guitar players that are writing and soloing then what you're currently doing seems perfect. But, it does depend on what the group is trying to achieve. I'm a crap bass player in a band with two great guitar players that both write stuff, and both solo. All I do is play root...

    mid range bass

I don't know the Yamaha, but when I change from my passive jazz bass to the Ibanez SR600: 1) the Ibanez always feels so light and nice to play; 2) the neck is effortless; 3) for playing alone, turning the bass and mids up a tad gives a tone I like, while playing in a band the mid switch and...

    2017 Fender American Pro Series

Talking about the Mexican standards: a jazz bass is now US$860 on Andertons site (690 British pounds). [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] OK, Sam Ash has it at US$600 for you American folks, but that's still several hundred dollars more than I want to pay for a Mexican jazz bass. My V7 should...
