    Why you don't cheap out on gig bags (warning - disturbing pictures)

    I bought my Distortion+ new in 1975. The foam in the box is still as it should be, but the internal foam started to suffer about five years ago, here's as it is now;

    Old flats - are they still good?

    I borrowed this Vox Clubman Bass from a friend in 1978, although it has not had much play in the last 20 years it still has the original strings (I think Rotosound flats), nothing wrong with them.

    How can I hear my bass over the keyboard?

    I feel your pain. For many years I played in the pit band for a local pantomime. The very sweet lady who played piano played over everything. Technically she was very good. Her day job was accompaniest for a ballet school. So with no other instruments or vocalists to work with, she played the...

    Acceptable backline amp for outdoor festivals

    I've been running the entertainment side of a small charity beer festival for eight years now. For the last six, as well as PA, I have provided drum kit and backline. The stage is 16' x 8' at one end of a large marquee. About 7-800 attend the event. During the day folks wander in buy a beer...

    What is the Appeal of a Short-Scale Bass?

    With my right shoulder it was definitely a matter of how far out in front of my body the arm needed to be to play. With the left shoulder you could be right. Although the shortest scaled bass was most comfortable it may well have been how it balanced, the nut on a short scale bass is not...

    What is the Appeal of a Short-Scale Bass?

    There are lots of threads on TDPRI regarding the differences between Fender 25.5" and Gibson 24.75" scales, but I move from one to the other without noticing. However, a friend was bought the Rickenbacker John Lennon 325 for his 60th, he loves it, but I cannot get on with it at all, I think it...

    Recommendations for a Speakon to 1/4 inch cable

    I added Speakon sockets to my older cabinets, but I carry a couple of these in my tool case. Whenever I'm incorporating anyone else's gear into mine I can't be sure what connectors they will have. Just fit the adaptor into the amp, then plug a standard jack to jack speaker cable into the...
