Help me to appreciate matching headstocks

Well in the case where the neck uses maple + some dark wood (wenge, etc) and fingerboard uses rosewood/ebony, it looks pretty ugly to me if the headstock is not matched...
Exactly..if the headstock is not matched on a bass with rosewood fb , probably it just has a bare maple headstock, or maple with dark wood stripes, and neither of them looks good to me
I love matching headstocks and so does the woman who pays for my gear.
Obviously just a troll thread. Have fun! Matching Headstocks are awesome and very common on high quality instruments like Alembic and Pedulla. Not the thing for punk or grunge.

Anybody know where I can get a natural maple top P with a candy apple red headstock? I think that would be so cool and it wouldn't be all matchy matchy.
I never thought about before today, but I have one or two, and kinda like them. Two of my three basses;
Not that you can really see it in this photo, but my Burns Double-six 12 string has a greenburst headstock;
and the other twelvestring is matching black;
And the through neck Rickenbacker 650S;
There is also a red Explorer;
None of my Telecasters currently have a matching headstock;
but this one will be when the engraver has finished;

We’re gonna build a wall on the nut to stop the nasty body color from getting to the headstock. It’s gonna be tremendous! The best wall you’ve ever seen. The body will pay for it.
I'm not generally crazy about them, but sometimes they look great.
In general, I don't like matching headstocks on basses that have maple boards. Rosewood, ebony, and similar boards are a different story.
But even then, sometimes they look good on a bass with a maple board. Really just depends on the specific aesthetic of the specific bass.

My first custom was a warmth build. Had them to trans blue on a swamp ash body. At that time they would pair a headstock to match. The neeck was Birdseye. Was not terrible, but not a perfect match either. I didn’t know about veneer and such back then.
