Aesthetics is not very high on the list of what's important but it is on the list. I want to be able to look at my bass without reacting like someone has just dropped a bomb. As long as it's not too ridiculous I'll accept it with wide and loving arms.

I feel that the CIJ Fenders are of better quality than the MIM. I used to play a borrowed MIM until actually buying a CIJ Fender. You could easily buy one for under $1000 new. However I remember reading something about Fender Japan not shipping new Fenders outside of Japan.
