Hofner HCT Contemporary Bass Neck & Body separation fix (dropped bass)

It's a different construction. There's no gap between the neck and the body. But who knows. I don't even understand how one would come with the idea of such a poor neck joint. Flush, with two angled screws and glue. Iv'e seen anything from 2 to 8 screws (or the weird system on some travel...

Hofner HCT Contemporary Bass Neck & Body separation fix (dropped bass)

I never heard about Höfner "contracting" with a Chinese factory... They have their own factory in Beijing !

Hofner HCT Contemporary Bass Neck & Body separation fix (dropped bass)

Has anybody had any more information on that "fake set neck" ? This is haunting me (I have a 2008 HCT 500/1). This fellow has used a Contemporary neck to put on a German body and it fits (with a lot of teaking). In his case it's a "regular" dovetail joint.

Double Bass Boiled Linseed Oil on Fingerboard

If you just need to clean and oil the fretboard, it doesn't have to cure. Wipe it on, wipe it off within minutes. When it's dry to the touch, you can re-string the instrument. If you want to finish your fretboard in BLO, it's a completely different story, with longer drying time, then sanding...

    Strings identification

These strings ARE Rotosound 77 Flats. The coloured ball-ends is a new thing. Got a set of Roto Flats, they have the same look, same silk colour, and the same windings (Rotosound are the roughest flats I've tried). LaBella 760FL are smooth and mirror-polished and the silk is a tad orange. TI ...

GHS Precision Flats Super Long question

We could argue about numbers for quite some time, as I doubt there is any sort of international survey on what strings is put on what bass. I'd rather think most (I never said "all") people who buy flatwound strings use Fender-style basses. It's like saying most basses sold are 4-string and...

GHS Precision Flats Super Long question

Are you sure your target for Flatwound strings use 35" scale-zero nut, etc. ? Especially since GHS Flats are vintage thumpers...While more and more manufacturers try the "versatile/modern" argument, only GHS, Labella and Pyramid do "real" flatwound. (Maybe DR also but I've never tried them)...

GHS Precision Flats Super Long question

I confuse American Standard and American Series, I thought they were still called that until 2008. I'm no expert in Fender history and had really few "vintage" basses in hand, so I can't even compare. I've heard som pretty good MIM P-Basses, it's really when you have them in your hand that you...

GHS Precision Flats Super Long question

The "American Standard" has the High Mass bridge with both "through-body" or "top-load" since 2008. In 2012 Fender gave the American Standard "Custom Shop '60s Pickups" and recently they changed the hard-shell case. I trust you with mid-90s as introduction of through-body stringing "American...

New PJ Mustang at Summer NAMM

GAS ! drool But they're very pricey on this side of the Atlantic, 930-950€ (taxes are always included in Europe) seems to be the norm. Over $1050 for a MIM Mustang w/o case or bag...:banghead: I remember paying in the 750€ sth in 2009 (but back then the exchange rate was much better, MIM...

GHS Precision Flats Super Long question

I thought I was the only one not trying GHS Flats for that reason ! I just don't understand why they kept the "38 winding and discontinued the 36.5", since most flatwound users have Fender-style basses and except for pre-1957 P-Basses and pre-2008 US Standard, all have a top-load system...

How many basses do you own? (Currently) Part 2

First I must say don't try coming here with bad intentions, I had lessons with Chuck Norris and Rambo. I got 9 currently, but 3 make up 2/3 of the costs. '05(?) Squier Jazz Bass Std CAR '07 Squier Tele P-Bass 3-tone Sunburst '08 Fender Acoustic (BG-31 I think, been discontinued or replaced with...

Review: GHS Black Nylon Tape Wound strings

Oh no, this is terrible news:crying:. I have these on a Squier Jazz and I was actually thinking getting more to put on other basses. I have never tried other tapewounds, but GHS Black Nylon are GREAT strings, nice feel (butter smooth, good silk), good tension (the G could be a little tighter...

    The basses of Duck Dunn

"...if the sh*t fits, wear it!" Just watched The Blues Brothers Film again, man, that bass in the opening song (She Caught the Katy) is pure evil. I'd be curious to know more about the recording sessions for the soundtrack, the tone of the bass is just incredible. I see a Fender Bassman at the...

Which of these 3 basses should be my first bass? (Other bass suggestions are perfectly welcomed)

Bump! What did you end up buying ? Reading the OP I was really thinking "*** ?" -You select 3 basses that are completely different and ask for advices ? - Your requirements are: P-Bass tone, $700 as budget, and then a nitro finish. My first question is, have you already played the bass...
