    A New Voyage Begins

Congrats on the new full size keyboard! Lessons are a really good idea too. As for reading, it can be a challenge. I tried it when I first took up the mandolin, but it really slowed my progress with just playing the dang thing. I often thought it might be fun to get one of the old Vox...

Growing Up In Rock 'n Roll

It is a great planet! It's a good thing we didn't blow it up. I had no idea you were here either...until I read about the resort in AK, and then the pic with Ruby sealed it. It's really good to reconnect. I had no idea I ever inspired anyone to play bass, so thanks for that! I'll send a PM to...

Growing Up In Rock 'n Roll

Sternodox is a pretty cool dude too...even back 50 years ago when we were USAF. Talked music and listened to a lot of it back in the day. What an adventure you had with your dad! Thanks for sharing MK.

New Beatles track with a little help from A.I.

I find it interesting that in late 2023, we have new music from the Rolling Stones and then new music (albeit one song) from the Beatles. Back in the 60's, these guys were always battling with new album releases, usually the Beatles and then the Stones would respond. It was all good then...

Opening acts that went on to huge success

Late 1970, Ft Collins, CO, James Gang (Funk 49) opened for Denver band Sugarloaf (Green Eyed Lady). Joe W. went on to bigger and better things.

What artist/song/album started it all for you as a musician?

All things Motown and Stax. Mid 1960's local radio station played it all, Stones, Beatles, British Invasion bands, and Soul. For some reason most of the local bands were mostly playing soul, and that is where I started playing bass.

What was your first bass guitar?

Got it in 1965, used Epiphone Newport Deluxe, with case, purchased from friend, $100.

    Your Dream Band

Five musicians, female vocalist, keyboard (best musician, and with B3, vocals), lead/rhythm guitar (lead and backup vocals), drummer with jazz/rock vibe, and bass guy (me, backup vocals, maybe?).

What compressor do you use, and why?

Ditto this, good description, my experience as well.

What would you consider the “Les Paul” of basses?

Not sure of about the subjective criteria of vibe and mojo, but I always liked the LP body style of the Hofner Club bass. In fact, in 1970, I was in a Denver pawn shop looking to upgrade from an EKO violin bass and found a used one. It didn't have a case, but for a few dollars more, they gave...

Alternating Between Lined & Unlined Fretless Basses

Been playing fretted basses for decades, but two years ago, I put together a fretless Warmoth 32"scale P bass, with low contrast fret lines. Was concerned that my intonation would be off so the lines gave some comfort and as others have mentioned, I kept a tuner on to check. Appears my finger...

Preamp tube advice needed: tight and focused

Over years of tube-rolling....with an Ampeg SVP Pro, Mesa Walkabout and now a Fender TV Bassman (with only one tube), I've found this to be the best for my V1 tube sound. I'd call it tight and focused... GENALEX - GOLD LION ECC83
