My band - SHAKEN - Check out our new pro recording

Hey recording buffs, I just wanted to come by and post a link to the recording we just finished. We recorded with producer Travis Wyrick (10 Years, POD, Disciple) in Knoxville, TN. The primary guitar tones were through Splawn and EVH 5150 III, and both Splawn and Marshall cabs. The main...

    Cabs---Less power, more tone?

Jimmy, ever since I have started playing with my Basson 8x10 I've really picked up on this. The 4x10 and 1x15 set up I had before just seemed to have more tone to it. More roundness, more fullness, more punch. The Basson 8x10 is certainly one of those high powered cabs you're talking about...

    Which 810?

Well the thing is, once you have the watts there, you can push it harder and harder and harder.

    Which 810?

Ok, I'll chime in on the Basson 8x10. If what you're looking for is lows then it certainly has that covered. I have mine running off of a Peavey Tour series 700 preamp and powered by a QSC 2450, which is very much needed. The cab calls for at least 1,500 watts to run the cab and at first I...

Help my band Shaken get to a huge music festival please!

Hey everybody, I'm more of a lurker than anything but I have a huge favor to ask of every one of you. My band is going to Cornerstone, a huge week long music festival this summer and to get on a bigger stage we need to be voted for! To be able to play on the stage we must stay in the top...

    Peavey Amps???

My tour 700 cut out at first but after the mod was performed I have had no problems. I run a separate power amp and just use the preamp and am having amazing results. The eq is great and you can really go wild with it and achieve some great sounds. I would say go for the tour series heads.

    Best way to increase punch

Haha another cab is not an option right now, we're a touring band so finding time to get all that worked out on low funding is horribly difficult. I would LOVE to try those cabs out though.

    Best way to increase punch

It's a good cab and I'm getting a good tone from it, but it's way different from anything I've played through and it's also my first 8x10. I think I can get what I desire but may just take more tweaking than I had imagined. I'm also wondering if the problem lies within my power. The cab is...

    Best way to increase punch

Haha no no I understand, my guitarist is always having problems with it.

    Best way to increase punch

My guitarist has a cheap Alesis compressor/noise gate with two channels, I need to hook up to that and see what I can do. Thanks for all the help guys, I'm going to try some stuff out asap.

    Best way to increase punch

The thing is I play in a metal so I want to be precise and punchy as possible. I'll have to try some stainless steels.

    Best way to increase punch

Ok, as of right now my rig consists of a Peavey tour 700 head (with power sections bypassed), QSC 2450, Basson 8x10 cab, and Ibanez SRX2EX1 4-String. Once I switched from a Peavey tour 4x10 cab + Fender bassman 15 cab to the 8x10 configuration I lost a lot of punch. Now, I'm looking to...
