What Was the Best Stingray You've Ever Played?

I'd love to hear the stories about that one Stingray that just had "it" - the one that jumped out from all the rest. After playing bass for 35 or so years, I just got into the Stingray. I have no idea why it took that long. I grew up with the iconic images of Flea playing Stingrays live...

2-Band Stingray Owners - What's your instrument EQ setting?

I’m similar to what others have mentioned - both up 100% and then dial back if needed in the mix. I’m a new Stingray player after 35 years or so and went into a deep dive of informational videos when I bought my original ‘87 recently. What I found that was interesting (and I wish could find...

    “Feeling” the bass

Yes, as @Pulverizor mentioned the BackBeat is like a subwoofer that you can wear on your strap. Seems like a great solution for fly-dates. This review is from 2019 and design may have changed a bit, but gives you more info: https://bassmagazine.com/issues/issue-2/review-backbeat-rumble-pack/

Thoughts on the Yamaha BBNE2 as a modern 5-string J-style bass?

I wish I could help and I'd love to play one myself. I took a deep dive here about two weeks ago and found a video a member posted that really raised my interest. It was a recording at a rehearsal where his band jammed and he tried three different basses. I forget what the other two basses were...

Thoughts on the Yamaha BBNE2 as a modern 5-string J-style bass?

I’ve been looking at these as well. Love all the video clips I’ve been hearing. One hesitation is the limited finish/color options. If the limited edition pewter model with black hardware was widely available that would close the deal for me.

NEW MESA TT 800 AMP. OH. MY. GOD.

I attempted to search the thread but didn't find anything definitive - has anyone shared experiences using this as a doubler? From what it seems, the thought would be to put my passive pbass in the Boogie Channel and piezo pickup (David Gage Realist) in the SW channel for double bass. I know I'd...

Double Bass Low Tension Strings for Laminate Bass (SB88)

Final year end wrap up - I've stayed with these strings and have really enjoyed them. Lots of great compliments from casual listeners and audience members when playing live. There's always curiosity to try something new but these give me the sound and feel I like so on to 2024!

Double Bass Low Tension Strings for Laminate Bass (SB88)

Reporting back with about 8 months on the strings. Still really enjoying the Evah Slaps for the music and style I'm going for. Love the feel and sound. Here's a video with audio that was recorded with the Evahs on my SB88. Hope you all dig it!

    seeking a good band-on-tour documentary

“Drive Well, Sleep Carefully: On the Road with Death Cab for Cutie“ If I remember correctly, this movie follows their transition from van to bus as Transatlanticism gained popularity. Not a small tour doc but Radiohead’s “Meeting People is Easy” is a deep look into the band’s struggle with...

Double Bass Low Tension Strings for Laminate Bass (SB88)

I’ve been very happy with them. Both feel and sound are what I was hoping for and puts a smile on my face every time I play. Have been getting a lot of great feedback from other players too. Had a demo recording session and a bunch of rehearsals with first gig (blues) tomorrow. They amplify well...

Which is preferable 4string or 5string tone!!??

A consideration I keep in mind is scale length. Many 5 Strings have a 35” scale vs the traditional 34” 4 string scale. An exception is a 5 string Fender that also has a 34” scale. Aside from all things identical other than number of strings, E to G (with a B or C) with a 35” scale is going to...
