Origin Audio Cali76 FET compressor (1176 inspired)

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but so far the clips of the Cali 76 have blown me away. Would love to hear from butler and finbase on a comparison to the diamond bass company, which I currently have and really like.

    Peavey 115 and 210 cabinets

My buddy is considering a similar decision, but has the peavey 210. So this thread might help. http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f15/cabinet-help-ampeg-pf-350-a-969352/ Let us know what you end up with :)

    Ampeg SVT-III Pro tubes

As I remember when I retubed my svt3pro, it had 4 12ax7s and 1 12au7. Based on what you are saying, I think the amp is working fine.

    Cabinet help for Ampeg PF-350

Your right there are many factors. Do you have any recommendations for a cab on this tight budget? I suppose the peavey headliner is worth around $100-150 if he sells it, so that would up the budget for a new cab some.

    Cabinet help for Ampeg PF-350

That's part of the issue with the peavey cab. I assume bass cabs are pretty similar to PA cabs in that the cheaper cabs typically are not very efficient and have a low sensitivity. I am guessing though. Its not always the case though. With my speaker cabs though, my Ampeg BXT210M is louder...

So 410+15 is bad but 210+15 is good?

;) I thought identical was pretty clear. Identical cabs meaning two cabs of the exact same make and model.

So 410+15 is bad but 210+15 is good?

I think the real answer is to try the combo and see if it works for you. I see a risk in combining any 2 cabs that are not identical.

    Playing Guitar Through Bass Amp?

Its not going to hurt anything to give it a try. If you have a cab with speakers typically favored by guitarists and can take the power of your bass amp, that is probably your best chance for success. I haven't tried my guitar through my bass rig. But going the other way, my Jazz bass sounds...

    Cabinet help for Ampeg PF-350

Your right, I tend to get hung up in the specs. Do you have any cab recommendations for this tight budget?

    Cabinet help for Ampeg PF-350

Thanks for the response Jimmy. I knew you had a portaflex cab, hearing from someone who has actually used the cab is helpful as that is the true test, not just the numbers. I do like that Ampeg actually gives the sensitivity, as my friend is struggling to get enough volume out of the peavey...

    Cabinet help for Ampeg PF-350

Trying to help out a friend here with a good recommendation. He is a big 60's/70's R&B and funk fan, so please keep that in mind. His basses are a Fender MIM P-Bass with flatwounds and a Schector Raiden Special 5 active 5 string. Its the 5 string I am concerned about this cab choice. In...

Talk Me Out of Buying this Ric

I would go for it. Sounds like your previous ric experience was due to issues with that particular bass. I think this one will be different for you. If I ever get a 3rd bass, it will be a Ric for sure. :)

Did you keep your first bass?

I sold my first bass, it was an Ibanez TR series. It did the job, but I don't regret getting rid of it. I do still have my first electric guitar, but my late mother helped me pick it out, so it has sentimental value. :)

Is a bass compressor really necessary?

A compressor isn't necessary, but I will say its a nice to have. Every bass player that I have introduced to using a compressor has either bought one and uses it all the time or adds one to their wish list. I love my Diamond Comp, it adds a nice punch and sheen to the sound. Its one of those...

Diamond Bass comp versus Empress compressor

I considered that, however the Empress has in input control so I think it might work better with my Active MM sterling 5. With my Sterling5, I actually like it better without the Diamond Comp. With my Jazz bass, is where I love the comp and I do use the EQ a bit. I use the EQ much more on...
