the "singer & the band" dilemma, how to prevent it?

Leaning towards this... I've seen some typos before, but that radical of a band change name (unless said singer is already a big name in their own right with their own draw) just sounds off... Either way, correct it and nip it in the bud.

Going in the studio.. having second thoughts.

    Excellent - congrats!

    Gigs for Originals Band

Given the OP was asking about gigs for an originals band (something that a lot of folks have experience with, including the ones that result in cash in pocket), it's probably more a case of the wrong thread than the wrong room ;)

    Gigs for Originals Band

This. And yep, you can even get paid doing it (and make some nice coin from merch along the way). For the OP, biggest thing is to build up the following (there are other threads on that topic, but count on a very long haul), then you will either be in the situation to just do your own thing...

    Gigs for Originals Band

If it's good, why not? I've bought more than one EP from an originals act if I liked the tunes, and if I'm in NYC for the evening, I'm only hitting places that have live original music (otherwise I'd just go somewhere with a decent juke box). Different strokes and all that jazz.

Interesting performance / copyright/ video question

Sorry, Service Mark/Trademark. We have a signed band agreement that covers the use of the band name/logo, and covers vesting publishing rights to the studio recordings with the band (although the studio recordings aren't at issue here, more these specific live performances). We acknowledge...

Interesting performance / copyright/ video question

The problem is that band member 'A' is pretty much slandering myself and the drummer in the description of every video, and is repeatedly representing (publicly) that he 'fired' the band, and taking credit for all of the works under his new band's name. Short background - band member 'A'...

Interesting performance / copyright/ video question

Question for the masses. Have a case where musician A (songwriter) and musicians B and C perform as a band at a venue. The songs are recorded and placed on YouTube. Musician A departs the band, and now included the videos as a representation of work by his new band (since he's carrying...

Got kicked out of my band on Labor Day, madder than a hornet this morning...

I'm lucky in that the wife is 100% supportive of my music (buying her a vintage guitar and vox tube amp helped...) Our deal is pretty simple. As long as she gets to do her interests, I get to do mine. Granted, it took two wives to get to that point of mutual understanding ;)

Got kicked out of my band on Labor Day, madder than a hornet this morning...

That's a pretty reasonable schedule too for a lot of folks, and right in the middle of the bell curve for what I see in my area for bands. At the extreme you have either folks with no gigs who want to jam in the basement, or folks who want 2-3 practices per week in preparation for national...

The Official Covers vs Originals Thread

And this is a primary example of non-productive conversation. Whereas most of us are 'do what makes you happy', you're now saying 'oh, there's no way you can be happy with what you do.. you could not possibly be happy for reals because you're not doing what I'm doing.. thus I must doubt your...

The Official Covers vs Originals Thread

Oh, he does. It's just the way he is. Just a total lack of class and his credibility bank is pretty much empty.

Split Band Fund After Split From Band?

    Good deal, glad to hear

Can anyone recommend hearing protection for musicians?

One of my bands does exactly this, and it's fantastic for practice. Heck, we've even recorded a lot of our demos on an electronic kit.
