New and shiny or aged relic? Classic 50s vs Road Worn P Bass Poll

I have 2 RW P-Basses, a RW Strat and I just bought a RW Telecaster. The necks on all of them feel like an old t-shirt. Because of the poly finish on the new instruments you will never be able to get the feel of that well played instrument. In addition I believe the RW series has a thin lacquer...

Shipping Issue.. Venting, but would love some feedback as well.

OK it used to be that unless it was an eBay transaction Paypal would only cover the item if it was lost. I am pretty sure that they will only get involved with damage if it is an eBay sale. I am also fairly sure that eBay is the one who decides if the buyer gets a refund on damaged goods or...

Help! Is this MIJ Fender Precision Bass fake or real?

A Fender made in Japan is either marked on the front of the headstock or on the back of the neck down near where the neck meets the body. There would also be a serial number in either of those 2 places. Ask yourself if he was selling a Japanese base why would he not include a photo of the area...

No longer available BOSS CH-1 Super Chorus Pedal

I would love to sell to California but I have a few friends who got in trouble because an item they sold did not comply to some obscure regulation. California has too many regulations.

what's a good fret puller that won't break the bank?

Do yourself a favor, buy the newest version of the Stewmac fret removers. They work much better than the older version suggested in the earlier post. Also do use the soldering iron with a bit of water. The frets come out super clean. File a small groove in the tip to keep the tip from sliding...

    54 Precision Attic Find

Yes you are correct if you had a bass that was originally white. White oil based paint will turn yellow with age due to smoke and other pollutants in the air. I didn't get "white" as the original color from the photos. I thought you were going after a butterscotch as the original color. Sorry.

    54 Precision Attic Find

I think you have the taped area reversed. The area under the pick guard and control cover should be darker. The area that is not covered should be lighter due to fading.

Ugly paint bubbles...who's the best refinisher?

Try taking off the tuners to see if you can get a needle between the finish and the wood. If so you may be able to inject some glue between the finish and the wood. I have done this with very thin super glue. Tape off the top of the headstock to keep the glue from ruining the top of the...

Neck is back bowed without any truss rod tension? Success rate of jigging??

I stand corrected on the curved truss rod. Most of the repairs I have done are on older electrics. I still do not use the truss rod nut to adjust the neck. I will manually position the neck and then snug up the nut. I have never broken a truss rod using this method. It also allows me to remove...

Screwed up pots (maybe?) on my Standard Precision

You can get tuner cleaner in most electronics or auto parts stores. If you do have a large amount of dust or dirt it can actually work its way into the pot and cause the fingers to loose contact. This will cause some of the issues you mentioned above. It's not the dirt on the outside its the...

Neck is back bowed without any truss rod tension? Success rate of jigging??

The jig is fairly simple. First remove the neck from the body and check the neck with a straight edge to make sure it is straight. I will typically put wood blocks under the heal and at the nut holding them down with clamps on a bench. Remember to protect the neck and fretboard. Loosen the TR...
