54 Precision Attic Find

Just so you all know...I didn't want to come on here and sound like a "flipper", but....if you've noticed..I'm seriously left handed. As nice as this bass is going to be, I'm not Jimmy Haslip, and I have no desire to play it upside down! So it will be going down the road after I deem it finished to my standards. This seemed like the best audience to show the process of restoring it to, there are no secrets, or hidden problems...if I'm out of line saying it will be for sale in this forum, admin me and I will throw myself to the ground roughly.
On second thought, I will donate a portion of the proceeds to TalkBass

So, what I'm hearing is... considering all of the love you've put into this lucky bass, you're going to learn to play right handed.

The further along you get with this project, the more impressed I am. I'm sure that bass knows that it is the luckiest bass in the world to have found you!

Simply become a supporting member. You contribute, and the ability to sell comes with it. I’m coming up on 12 years. Well worth the small investment in this community.

  1. Refinishing is an adventure, no doubt....I couldn't resist this approach to ageing..shading is artist's business, that's for sure. I'm not 100% sold on my own work...we'll see....this looks like a "natural" relic....going away on vacation for 10 days, so this will be pretty gassed out by the time I get home. Lots more clear to go...

*Technically* saying it's for sale is against the rules. If you want to donate a portion of the proceeds, getting a supporting membership so that you can list in the classifieds here is probably the best way :)

Oh... and the bass looks stunning so far! This is a wonderful story!

I'm not sure about the fading, but we'll see in the finished project which I'm anxious to see how it turns out :) The repair job came out amazing. I can barely tell it's there and I know it's there. I think someone who didn't know about it wouldn't be able to find it at all.

Yes you are correct if you had a bass that was originally white. White oil based paint will turn yellow with age due to smoke and other pollutants in the air. I didn't get "white" as the original color from the photos. I thought you were going after a butterscotch as the original color. Sorry.
