54 Precision Attic Find

That nut looks pretty worn down, esp on the G string. Will you have to replace it?
I screwed the neck and body together and put some strings on it to make sure the pick up was where it needed to be before I drilled the mounting holes. I brought it up to tuned tension to see if the neck was stable...I relieved the tension and moved the truss rod a quarter turn in either direction and brought it up to tune each time to make sure the truss rod was working properly..it is, and it plays really well with no buzzes. The frets are very narrow, and do have some wear on them, but I'm not going to do anything with them. As long as the neck stays straight and level, I think it will stay the way it is. I'll decide after it is all done and done what small tweaks will be applied.

Obviously hard to tell from the photos, but it looks like the frets still have a decent crown on them and are not too chewed up. I would not mess with them unless they did not play well.

Nice score!!!!!!!

I hope it is just the photos but to be honest I find the paint just a bit to covering.
I would only add nitro clearcoat on top to make the surface smooth. Certainly no more layers of blonde.

I agree, any more coats of white and you won't see much grain. Like you see on this white 53 anyway.
