volume goes down when knob is at 10

Ive encountered this behavior on pots that have been cooked by players trying to DIY (usually from trying to add a ground wire to the pot casing). Replace the pot.

Odd double bass in my shop.

Less extreme break angle on the low E and a sharper one for the (more flexible) G. Not sure if that is a standard thing on an Upton but they really think things through there, so it wouldn't surprise me if it were an intentional choice.

Double Bass Evah Pirazzi Slap Strings

I've rarely met a player using these strings who runs the stock E. Ive worked on exactly one bass where it felt like the E matched the rest of the set (slap A, Dugoleki D and G). I think the D and G (especially the G) are the biggest winners in this set. On basses that run tight or react well...

    String suggestions to limit fatigue?

Maybe I missed something but are you talking fretting or picking hand? If its your picking hand try a lighter gauge pick. If your string heights are reasonable (2-2.5mm at last fret) and your neck is straight and your nut heights are good, there is absolutely no reason you can't play electric...

Trying to resolve low string tension feel

How heavy and "stiff" is the bass and neck? Stiffer, heavier basses can result in a looser feel (since the body/neck isn't distorting as much when you load and release the string). I've observed this in upright basses, but never noticed it to a problematic level on an electric (thin/light plys...

Double Bass Is there a legit reason for this setup?

That is a very standard string height and generally what I set customers basses to as a starting point (adjusters almost all the way down). I believe that is what Chuck Traeger cites as the ideal steel string height. Glad to hear that all worked out for ya

Double Bass In refutation of the discriminatory idea that you cannot 'swing on a stool'

I've never really had the impression there was any kind of prejudice against sitting while playing jazz. I've done it for a few periods but seem to always come back to standing either because I a: get a stronger sound (personally, I've heard others sit and get a huge sound) or b: get tired of...

Double Bass Pirastro Olivs vs Eva Pirazzi Slap on a cheap bass

Slap D/G with a light spiro E/A is a great setup for a plywood, especially if it runs a little tight as I've found plywoods often do.

    Soft strings for double bass

Evah Slaps are fantastic low tension strings

Double Bass To follow structural mistakes of the soloist, is it a mistake ? To follow or not to follow ?

Its important to draw the distinction between someone being lost, vs confidently wrong. If/when I hear a musician miss the form while soloing, but they are still playing clear ideas and I can clearly tell where they think they are, I'll go with them. If hear flailing or sort of "testing" of...

Double Bass To Dot or not to Dot? That is the question.

As someone with inlaid dots on both my basses. Just use a non-permanent method. Makes selling easier, and if for some reason you move your bridge and get a better sound at a shorter or longer string length, you won't be stuck with inlays that are off.

Double Bass New Upton Bass Strings

Personally I'm glad to see Gary and Upton get into strings. Sounds like he hit his goal of an even more "alive" steel core string. Camera audio and computer speakers are not the best way to judge a string. I remember when the fist clips of the Aquila sprials came out I didn't think they sounded...

Double Bass Vintage strings ID help

I've only seen the long thin string ball ends like that on LaBella upright strings. The other ones look like eurosonics but with different silks... Not totally sure

EMG 40P5 and 40J or some other combination?

IMHO: The factory preamps in most basses these days are not great. Even brands like Ibanez that will use great pickups skimp on the preamp. If you are already swapping pickups, you might as well get an EMG eq setup as well. Everything will be solderless after the gut, which is nice.

convert fretless to fretted luthier in Ohio?

Might have more luck on the Electric Bass side of the forum.
