I use a scrungy (cloth ring for holding hair in place) - donated by my wife and/or daughter. They are effective for muting, but don't interfere with sustain. I tried the gruvgear dampeners, but switched back to the hair pieces.

I love that song (Mighty To Save)...wish we had it in our library of songs.

That's a good thing IMO.

I also insert my own style, but I play enough so the audience can recognize the song. Some of the songs we play have bass lines that define the song.

This link works, but I cannot get to the American Deluxe Jazz V from the Fender home page. The 4 string is still there, but no 5 string.

If I hadn't scrolled half way through the song to see this, I would not have noticed as I was focused on the bass line.
