Orbis Guitars Terratum III Bass - G3 Style Build

Here's a bunch of build progress pics - raw wood all the way up to the completed build. Difficult to find 8/4 Ash in the northeast, but I did manage to find some. My local lumberyard has some amazing curly maple, and I really prefer the stability of a laminated neck, so I tend to go with a 4...

    Super-lightweight P bass build

For the nut on the barrel jack, try taking a deep socket and hand-tightening it as much as humanly possible, then use pliers/channel locks to crank it down. I've done that in the past for barrel jacks (I think it worked out alright).

Orbis Guitars Terratum III Bass - G3 Style Build

No way! So years ago I was given an S1 that was beat to all hell - it was found in a basement. No hardware, a hacked-up headstock with some Schallers retrofitted to it, the body was split from water damage....it was just a mess. Thought about fixing it up, but just gave it away instead. Should...

Orbis Guitars Terratum III Bass - G3 Style Build

Well, after lots of interest in the Grabber-style build (which I've dubbed the "Terratum IV"), I was asked to build a G3-style build in the same vein as my Terratum IV, so I did! I have put my own spin on the body carve (deeper all around), but still stuck with 1.5" body thickness for weight...

    What's On Your Workbench?

Oh no way! Very cool! After a few more "Snatcher" builds, I'll likely try a triple-pickup version like the G3. Huge fan of all of them, and I've always wanted one of each.

    What's On Your Workbench?

Check out my thread for the full details about this, but for now... Got this about 98% done. Need a truss rod cover, strap locks, and waiting on a logo emblem thing for the headstock....but other than that, it's playable and done! I went with budget parts on this because it's more of a...

    Grabber-style Build

So this is my first complete build in nearly two years since my old shop burned down. Took me a bit longer to complete it than I anticipated (not having a proper workshop setup), but it is finally here. Introducing: The Snatcher! Got this about 98% done. Need a truss rod cover, strap...

    What's On Your Workbench?

Got this thing nearing the finish line. Used Rubio for the finish - a first for me - and I really like how it came out. Need to figure out how to mount the pickup now. Had an idea, and it didn’t work. Plan B now. Or C. Or D….Until it works right!

    What's On Your Workbench?

Long time, no post. Lots of changes - lost my shop to a fire about 1.5 years ago, and I've been working on my apartment's patio ever since. Very different work flow (and MUCH slower). This is the latest. Being realistic, I'm hoping to have it done May/June 2023. That might even be too ambitious...

Peavey T-40 Replacement neck construction (long thread + pics)

Bringing this one back from the dead (again)...four and a half years later! Figured it's an extension of the original project, so I'll keep it continuous. After a hell of a hiatus (and moving, again...this time to another state), I've been working on some more projects and decided to take on a...

Autodesk Fusion 360 CNC software and the Guitar Engine add-in

Been using Fusion for a few years (just making bodies with it, at the moment), then I stumbled upon this a few months ago. Great, easy add-on. Hopefully carving my first test fretboard this weekend! I've used it to design a few bodies already with so much ease.

Looking for some opinions on the best way to build a PA system in 2017.

I personally own a Behringer X32 rack - I used to have the Producer, but sold it in favor of the rack mount X32 because we were primarily using it only for IEMs. Added a 16x2 rackmount split snake on the rack to feed FOH in venues where we used it exclusively for IEMs, otherwise I would run...

    RichLite composite fretboards

I have used richlite on a build - not a bad material at all to work with. I would contact the company directly if you are interested in some fretboards. Mine were ~$8 each for guitar-sized ones. Good guys to work with.

    Stew Mac safety planner?

I have the Stew Mac one. First impression: What a waste of money. Then I built a proper jig for it..... Great, great tool when used PROPERLY. Don't expect to throw it in your drill press and go. Set it up properly....table, fence, hold down, et cetera. Really a handy tool to have around when...
